I just have to ask -- Were you Devs also a little disappointed in Spacebase DF-9 too? Because I'm seeing some small similarities here or there. I just have this feeling you just told Double Fine to hold your drink while you show them how it's done.

That being said, I love the fact that your early access game is essentially MORE complete than Spacebsase DF-9 ever will be. Looking forward to seeing more updates and reading more dev stories on your game. It looks great!
Yeah I was really into DF9 as I love the DF sense of humour which was what made that game stand out to me, unfortunately it didn't work as a game and was ditched which was gutting as I was already invested. I can't remember if there was ever any statement made about why they stopped developing it. It seemed like there was so much more to be done with it.

This game seems to have a similar feel going on but the graphics (unless I'm misremembering) seems more low res, pixel style and it seems a bit flat in terms of writing and sense of humour but that may just be my first impression of it. It would interesting to hear people's stories when playing it to see if it has the same character as DF9 did

Powercut: I can't remember if there was ever any statement made about why they stopped developing it. It seemed like there was so much more to be done with it.
According to this article on Polygon, "Obviously, spending more money than we were making isn't something we can afford to do forever. So, as much as we tried to put off the decision, we finally had to change gears and put Spacebase into finishing mode and plan for version 1.0." That was the direct quote from Schafer.

Basically the rest of what I understand is they put what they earned from Early Access back into the game and it didn't make enough in sales to warrant continued development. Which is a shame as I usually like Double Fine's games and their artwork, setting, music, etc.

What's really unfortunate is that it shut me off from doing early access games because if I got burned by Double Fine, I didn't want to get burned by anyone else. It's not even so much that it was the money I invested, but more the disappointment of somebody abandoning a vision that I found fun and exciting. I just err on the side of caution from now on.
