Hello everyone!
As the topic header reads I've been trying to get this wonderful game to work in the Linux Mint O.S. on my computer, unfortunately the results thus far have been a little lackluster.
When the game starts up this error message pops up: Access violation at address 0016A421. Write of address 7C65E010
Now after that error message pops up I can dismiss it and go about starting a game, unfortunately while trying to advance to the next turn the game will freeze up. First time that happened pressing Ctrl+Alt+Delete apparently "unfroze" it enough so I could close it, then on the second try I had to go through System Monitor to shut down that process/program.....and then on the third try it froze up so badly that I had to restart the computer.
Given how bad it got on that third time I thought it'd be a better idea to post this question for you folks here before trying anything else.
Now before anyone asks this game is running through wine, though I had no part in setting that up as it just happened during installation. In case it would help here's the command/pathway from the desktop icon: env WINEPREFIX="/home/mantech1/.wine" wine C:\\windows\\command\\start.exe /Unix /home/mantech1/.wine/dosdevices/c:/users/Public/Desktop/Space\ Empires\ 4\ Deluxe.lnk
Just in case it's necessary here's the basic specs on my computer:
Mobo: Gigabyte model: F2A68HM-H
CPU: Quad Core model: AMD A10-7850K Radeon R7 12 Compute Cores 4C+8G
Graphics: AMD Kaveri [Radeon R7 Graphics] vendor: Gigabyte driver: radeon v: kernel
bus ID: 00:01.0 chip ID: 1002:130f
Display: x11 server: X.Org 1.19.6 driver: ati,radeon unloaded: fbdev,modesetting,vesa
resolution: 1280x1024~60Hz
RAM: 8 GiB
