I played SOF2 in the early 00s, but this is my first time playing SOF1. I notice that the draw distance is very poor, and often I'm getting shot from beyond visual range. I have no choice but to rush into the grey to discover my enemies to kill them. I had to drop the difficulty down to survive level 2's helicopter fight so it's not really a problem, but it's still rather annoying, and I imagine it would make harder difficulties impossible. Is this a limitation of the game, or is there something wrong with my config? As far as I can tell, graphics settings appear maxed, including the "Detail Texturing Range" which seems closest to draw distance... Any ideas?
I finished the game today (on easy). Performance seemed to tank in the last few levels. To try to cope with it I played some more with the graphics settings, and I think I just had the gamma/intensity/brightness/etc. too dark. At least, I think so. I seemed to be able to see much further today, but then again I don't know if it only affects specific levels. In any case, if you're having trouble with draw distance consider if the above settings are correct. According to the text that scrolls through the bottom of the screen you should aim for "4" to be just visible (and I'm assuming 3 should not be easy to read).
