Hello all,

Bought Solasta on 1.0 release a few days ago and have been playing it. All the 3D models look great and fantastic. However when I open my inventory, the character models are very blurry to the point of eye-strain. This is true even on Ultra High graphics settings. They don't look like that in-game, just in the inventory screen.

Update: I figured something out, but I don't know what to do with it. I played around with the resolution and discovered that if I adjust the resolution to slightly off my native 1440x900 it causes all the models to be blurry because they are slightly squished. When I went back to my native resolution and looked again at the inventory screen, I realized that the character models displayed there are slightly squished causing the blurriness. Why they are squished there and nowhere else I can't explain nor do I know how to fix such an issue. Let me know if you can think of anything. I am using an Nvidia card if that helps.

Is this normal for everyone, or is there something I can do to fix it?

If you look at the screenshot attached, let me know if the inventory models in your game are fuzzy like this or are they sharp and clean?
no, I do not have that issue. You can click on my 'new walk through' thread, and see that I dont have that problem. Ep 1, starts with the settings I am using, if you think that might help any.

Took a look at your video and settings. My default is exactly the same. Fullscreen Window, Single, TAA, High. I've tested it on other settings too but my default is the same as you. This is really depressing there doesn't seem to be a reason behind this.
It's just a wild guess, but is it possible you might be forcing certain graphics settings onto the game?

I played around with graphics settings myself, but I couldn't get the same blur unless it blurred everything (DSR resolution with smoothness cranked to maximum on Nvidia cards will create a similar blurring effect to what you get, but it does it for everything including the interface).

I just realized my post was a bit ambiguous, just in case I didn't come across, when I was talking about the graphics settings, I meant those settings outside of the game, ie the nvidia/amd/intel graphics control panel within the operating system rather than in the game (if you did get that meaning, disregard this!).

And....I just tried your resolution 1440x900, though running in a window and I get the same problem as you!

So it is indeed a bug in the game, you can see I have the same issue running that resolution by the attached image.

EDIT:
It seems to be anything 1440x900 or less has the blurring effect, as the other resolutions seem to suffer the same problem. Once I switched to 1600x900 (next resolution higher than 1440x900 for me) I got back the sharp character models.

You're the best!!! I see that you also posted over in Solasta Bug Forums so I can only hope it gets fixed in a future patch. In the meantime if you have any suggestions I'm all ears, but I don't think you can set a resolution higher than your native can you? Alas.

Cheers, it was fairly easy to sign up just using my old discord thankfully (I hate new sign-ups!), so I'm glad to contribute to fixing the problem.

Is it a laptop or desktop?

I think fairly recent Nvidia cards have the option of adding DSR (Dynamic Super Resolution) resolutions. You can basically render the scene at a higher resolution which downsamples it to the current native resolution which might fix it (it would also look better then standard native, but will be extremely taxing on the GPU since it is basically super sampling anti-aliasing). For example, if I add a 'DSR - Factor' of 4.00 I can choose a resolution of 3840x2400 inside the game despite my native resolution only being 1920x1200 (4x my native resolution of 1920x1200).

Without this DSR option whether a laptop or desktop, I think you need to connect a display with a higher resolution otherwise unfortunately :(

I have a desktop and an Nvidia card. Any tips on how to enable DSR?
It may be easier to see a picture of the setting and where they are located, so I attached a picture of the setting location once you open up the Nvidia driver panel.

Just right-click an empty part of the desktop and select "NVIDIA Control Panel" from the menu.

Once open you can pretty much follow the picture to get there, but just in case there is a problem:

-Select "Manage 3D settings" (under 3D settings).

-Under the "Global Settings" option scroll down to "DSR - Factors" and select the multiplier options (each one of these will add another resolution inside the game).

For example 4.00x will add a resolution 4x your current native resolution (eg 1440x900 will become 2880x1800), or 2.00x would be ~2036x1273, but you could enable them all if you like to find a resolution in game that looks better while not sacrificing too much performance.

Make sure to change "DSR - Smoothness" to 0% unless you want a repeat of the blurryness!

Hey! It worked! I had to crank it as high as it would go, though, because on anything else the text was broken and illegible for whatever reason. The blurriness was gone!

However, after playing for about an hour I started getting a splitting headache. I turned it back down to 1440x900 and the headache went away. Not sure why playing it on such a high res gave me a headache - nothing looked bad.

I am just glad the problem is solved. Eventually I will get a bigger monitor and that will solve it for good. I can't thank you enough for all your help! I posted this question all over the Internet and you are literally the only person who even tried to help and you solved it! Thank you so so so much!

That is a shame that you were getting headaches still with the changes; if I had the GPU horse power I would run DSR 4.00 myself as to me the texture detail improves (not enough to justify the framerate loss however).

Did you try switching off the in-game anti-aliasing (TAA or FXAA) to see if that helps?

With the DSR cranked to 4.00 you don't really need AA anymore since it does this naturally when it renders it back down to your original native monitor resolution.

That was it! That was the missing piece. Once I turned of AA it looks great! No headache!

My CPU fans sound like they're about to take off though, LOL. I've never heard them so loud. I worry it might burn out my card or something. I'm not overclocking or anything like that, though, so I guess it's safe.

Fortunately I don't suffer any framerate loss. Thank you again!
That is good news!

I was wondering about TAA, since it seems to blur the graphics a bit while moving but will sharpen up once you come to a stop, glad it helped with the headache issue, hopefully it doesn't come back again.

Eh, the headaches come back after a bit. Takes a little longer but there is some sort of eyestrain that's barely noticeable but will lead to a headache over time. Always goes away when I go back to 1440x900. Who knows why.
