First of all - I like the art style and the music but the game is on the verge of being playable due to atrocious controls that suck out all pleasure from the game, it feels like a bad NES game with slow unresponsive controls. I think I'll ask for my money back. It should be marked as early access.

1. Controls have a lag to them and in the result the movement feels clunky and the combat is too slow
2. No block button. Crouching just blocks projectiles and nothing more
3. Backwards dash is too slow, too laggy and to too short to be useful
4. On screen tutorials do not show buttons needed to be pressed.
5. Spirit bomb? I do not think I can use it
6. In dialogue the game does not pause and your character jumps when pressing next dialogue.
7. Save points are too few and far between, especially in the beginning of the second stage. Without proper block it is way too easy to die.
8. left d-pad does not work in the menu
9. Launch window - controller options - seriously what is that look like temporary workaround that nobody bothered to do right.

Spirit Bomb is available by pressing down (crouching) and B button together.
My right trigger throws Spirit Heads at the enemy.
The slower sword swing does a decap on the enemy which recharges your mana.
The faster sword swing over head kills the enemy quicker, but no recharge to mana.

If you are surrounded by enemies definitely don't use the slower sword decap swing move but the over head sword swing to get you out of the mess. When doing the slower decap sword swing keep some distance when you attack the enemy so you have time to hit them but them not you.

This is what I have learned so far in the game.

I Really do like the Game, yet i do have Huge Problem with the Joystick(Pad) support, it just doesent work, it does work with any other Game, yet it does strange things with this game, even i tried a couple of time to set it up again and again. yet the keybord works with a Delay on the movment, wich isnt how it should be i think...
I do hope for a fix for that, would love to enjoy the game really :(
I put in a refund request on launch day, and according to GOG the devs accidentally uploaded the wrong version of the game. Where it's Easter break the proper version won't be there until Thursday but I was advised to wait until then and escalate the matter if there is no noticeable improvement after the update.

This is good to know. If these issues aren't fixed by then, I too will be putting in for a refund. :(
This is important to know. While I'm very interested in "Slain!", I'm going to wait for the control issues to be fixed before plopping down money for it.
Finally got my GOG code from the Kickstarter. Have the issues listed above been patched yet? The devs have not been very vocal anywhere but the Steam forum, otherwise I would just try to find out myself. Thanks in advance!
Not patched yet. The last update just fix some menu bugs and other small things.

Hopefully they fix the combat system.
No fix, seems like this is the version they had intended. Avoid!

It may be the version they intended, but it is not the final version. Devs will be patching the game to address the issues that players have been complaining about. Check their post on the Steam forums for the details.

Why would you believe devs that just released a buggy game ? They had ALL development time to fix those bugs. Why didn't they ? Why would they hurt their business by releasing a game full of bugs instead of fixing them first ?
Believe me, they won't fix those bugs because they don't know how to. It is such a shame those artists had to work with incompetent devs and gameplay designers...

In the first paragraph of the post that I linked to, they say that they have hired on a new programmer; someone who knows how to address the issues the game has and how long it will take to fix them. As for why they would release a buggy game, I think it has a lot to do with the pressure they were under. They wanted to release their game somewhere near their original launch window, they suddenly became very high profile with both Microsoft and Nintendo advertising them as part of their 2016 indie lineup, and probably other non-public factors. Also, I give them a lot of credit for acknowledging the problems with the game and at least attempting to address them. They could have just as easily disappeared and left everyone high and dry. Plenty of other indie devs have done just that.

Long story short, I am giving them the benefit of the doubt. They say they're going to fix it, so I'm willing to give them the time and the chance to do so.

The controls are a lot more fluid now and there are improved tooltips that let you know what to do :)

Well, Patch 1 is here and the devs are expecting Patch 2 to be out by July. At that time, they will have addressed every single issue people have had with the game since launch in addition to making some extra improvements that people didn't even ask for (boss tactic adjustments, new boss, etc.). I hope you're prepared to eat some "humble pie".

I especially love how Patch 1 broke Xbox gamepad recognition. Can't play this using controller ow.

This game is a bad joke...
