It was awkward, but I had managed to get my Xbox One controller working with the original release of Slain. More or less. Now I can't even configure it in the launch menu and, in game, the GamePad option in the menu is grayed out. I tested the controller itself; works fine in other games.

Anyone have any luck getting their controller working with the update?

My MS XBox One Elite Controller works in the game. However, I had to upgrade its firmware, which is possible only via Win 10 XBox Accessories App (unavailable in previous Windows), or by connecting the controller to the actual XBox One. Before updating, I had significant problems getting the controller work at all.
