I'm a huge fan of old-school point-and-click games, and I have to say, this game certainly ranks among the better titles to have graced the genre.
While the story isn't all that great, and the adventuring itself is somewhat straightforward, the inherent accessibility of the controls/interaction options and the occasionally amusing comments made by both Simon and the NPC characters in the game make up for its overall flaws. Other elements, such as little touches like well-done animations for virtually everything in the game, as well as environmental effects (deer in the distance, a crow or hawk flying by, water cascading down a waterfall, etc.), also show the time and effort spent in making Simon the Sorcerer a quality title. Personally, I find the open field areas stunning, especially for a game made in the early '90s.
Anyways, if you're a fan of point-and-click adventure games, I'm sure you'll have fun playing Simon the Sorcerer. It might not be the greatest experience, but it certainly won't leave you disappointed.
Just in case you're wondering, the GOG version runs flawlessly on my XP PC (via SCUMM). No weird bugs, glitches, freezes, etc. from what I've seen so far.
