This game is something from my childhood but even though I have music checked to be on, it's not playing... Help? :c

Update: Works on the Windows 7 Laptop but doesn't work on the Windows XP Desktop.
.midi files are working for other stuff if that could be the issue (I honestly don't know though)

It's not a game breaking problem, it's just bothersome.

Maybe the midi sound device is muted or a wrong default device is selected.

Go to your Control Panel and open Sounds and Audio devices (see screenshot).

Check what your system uses as default midi device. The Microsoft GS Wavetable SW Synth should work.
Now check the corresponding Volume button. Make sure "Mute" below SW Synth isn't ticked and set the volume to a medium level.

I was excited to hear the music play right from the start, but the music doesn't work in "Starter Town". However, the music works in Disasters and City Starter. I just purchased Sim City 3000 on GOG and my computer is new. How do I get the music to play in "Starter Town"? Your time and assistance is sincerely appreciated by me.
I can confirm that there is no music in SC2000... tried all configuration options to no avail, and even changing the dosbox MIDI emulation. I also tried to install using the CD image, and found that the wame won't detect any VGA device from dobox, and I am forced to use the VESA device.

In the end, even if I got the game here I ended downloading Sim City 2000 from an abandonware site, and it works flawlessly. It is the GOG version which has something wrong on it.
