Hey all

I recently uninstalled Simcity 4 completely (deleted all saves and installation folder through the uninstaller), and in doing so, this has deleted everything in my documents folder. I tried making some new items in the folder and installed and uninstalled Simcity 4 the exact same way again, and same result: documents folder is empty.

I am writing this to warn everyone using Simcity 4, and am also wondering if anyone else has encountered this issue and/or would be able to help. Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance

I've recently lost the contents of my Documents folder as well (Windows 10), I was cleaning up my hard drive and removing games I hadn't played in a while, probably including SimCity 4.

You should report this to GOG's support. Sounds like a registry entry is pointing to the Documents folder for saves etc. instead of Documents\SimCity 4.

Hi Plokite_Wolf

Thanks for your reply. I've sent a message to GOG support, guess all we can do now is wait and cross our fingers.

Have you been able to recover your documents?

Only some, because I discovered that a day late. Many files are completely gone or corrupted by other data that went on the same sectors, so Recuva could recover only parts of what I had. I had some of those files on a different computer, though, so not all was truly.
Dang, sorry to hear that. Well at least you got some of your files back.

Did you update Windows 10 to version 1809 recently?

I am on 1803 still and had that issue.

Also, my library reports that the installer has changed, but there's no changelog.
Hey all, sorry about the long period of silence. Like Plokite_Wolf, I am still on 1803.
This should be emailed to everybody who bought this game!!!! IT DELETES YOUR FREAKING WORK!!!!
Does anyone know if this has been patched yet or if there is a mod that fixes it, etc?
According to GOG Support the current release of the game on GOG does not suffer this issue.

That's correct. We are confident that the current version is safe :)

If someone still has an older version of the game (possibly also if GOG Galaxy updated the older version, as uninstall file could stay the same) the issue can occur, but only if you select to remove save and configuration data by clicking 'No' when the installer asks if you want to keep all save data.

Windows 10 strikes again, I guess. I've never had any issues installing or uninstalling SimCity 4 on Windows 7. Why do people willingly subject themselves to such broken critical software?

edit: Which was... probably because of Windows 10! Again, I have never had something like this happen on either XP, Vista, or 7. It's clearly an issue with Windows 10, and Windows 10 is notorious for all kinds of issues as it is.

Maybe you should read the thread. It's not due to Windows 10, it's due to a misconfigured registry entry pointing to where saved games should be.

Late to the party on this one, but yes, this happened to me on an instance of uninstalling the game a long time ago
