Does sim city 4 on gog come with it already patched to allow the game to use more ram than the original version? Also, does it come with more CPU cores enabled? Can someone help me understand.

Also if the answer is no to both these questions, then how can I patch it myself without ruining the game/system

Thank you

Hi, as far as I know the GOG version of the game only comes with the default target line -CPUCount:1 which prevents the computer from trying to use more than 1 Computer core at a time to run the game.

SimCity 4 doesn't support proper multithreading and although your PC will try to do this anyways it can lead to errors and crashes. The single-threaded nature of the game means that the game runs fastest at the highest clock speeds and modern CPUs tend to slow down the CPU when more than 1 core is in use. Additionally the CPU striping that your PC will try to do can't be utilized by the program and if the two threads become unsynced this can cause exceptions and randomly crash your game.

As for the 4GB patch, I don't think GOG comes with this enabled. You can easily download the patch online here:http://www.ntcore.com/4gb_patch.php and install it over your game as the process is extremely simple.

Alternatively (and strongly recommended), you can install the Network Addon Mod (NAM; currently version 36) which will install the patch onto your game by default in addition to fixing the wonky behavior of the base game's traffic system (like conga lines of cars ignoring your avenues and highways to barrel down a side-street and then complain about insufficient infrastructure)
The mod is large but if you are feeling overwhelmed a simple "barebones" installation is an option for users who want to stick to Maxis' original design for the game.

You can find the NAM either here at SC4Devotion, at , or [url=http://www.moddb.com/mods/network-addon-mod] at ModDB.

Support for the mod or other aspects of SimCity 4 is also available at either of the first two sites, in case you have any other questions!
