I recently posted this in the game's Steam-forums as well, but I figured someone in this forum might be interested in the information as well. Here goes:

I bought this game back in the day. The current distribution here on Steam is set to use VGA graphics and an Adlib-sound card. However, the game came with separate disks for additional graphic adapters and allowed you to set different sound cards during installation. Not all the discs are provided here, and neither is the "data-sheet" that helped you to set the game up.

Should you want to use a different sound card, you can edit SS.BAT in the game's directory. Replace the line: shadow v a with shadow v r (for Roland sound cards) or shadow v p (for PC-speaker).

If you want to hear the Roland-music, I suggest you set up Munt and edit the game's DOSBox-configuration accordingly.

That's it! Well... in a way: instead of the "v"-parameter, you used to be able to set "e" (for EGA-cards) or "c" (for CGA-adapters), but the game lacks these files.
