I have recently purchased silver, excitedly downloaded and installed it to only get "Exception : access violation" as soon as i try to load the game.

I have redownloaded, reinstalled, updated drivers, restarted pc, opened as administator . . .
to only keep getting the same thing, i dont get an opening video, start screen or anything, it just goes straight to the error i mentioned above.

Does any one have any other ideas of what else to try?

Try this - Navigate to your install folder, then go into Data > Intro and move the .avi files elsewhere. The game should start up now.

YES this worked for me, so OP if you still have the trouble , try it , the game works like a peach now.

The video files are encoded with the archaic Indeo codecs, you could dl/install the needed codecs or re-encode them via Huffyuv lossless codec and import the files to VirtualDub and re-save them as "Save Old format AVI" hopefully that will work as well, haven't tried it yet, but did so for other games in the past, like Wizards and warriors...And excellent freeware converter Avidemux 2.6 is great for a fast re-encode, but if you want to add filters download vers 2.5 as 2.6 sucks as far as GUI/filters are concerned..

I need to leave this here as I spent quite some time getting my Gothic to run with SP 1.7 and everything installed correctly on Windows 7.
