Running Windows 7 Ultimate SP1 64-bit with 6 gig RAM, and the game doesn't even start. Tried the usual suspect compatibility mode, did not work at all. Says on the information page it's compatible with Win 7 though. I really, really want to play this game.

The original version of this game (which I have) has a bug where it will not run on systems with over 3GB of RAM; if GoG hasn't fixed that in this version it's pretty terrible.

Can anyone else with over 3GB of RAM confirm if they have been able to run this?

Yeah, exactly. I found this: http://www.strategycore.co.uk/forums/topic/9242-unsupported-videocard-new-fix/ and it's said this fix may also fix this issue but I am always very reluctant to download DLL-files from the wild.
Well I have 8 gig ram on the above and they both run fine.

The 'unsupported video card' bug was addressed in our release. Likewise, I don't think your issue is memory-related, since I can play the game without problems with 8GB RAM.

You can try some common troubleshooting steps - check if you have DirectX 9.0c installed (having DX10 or 11 is not enough), run the game as administrator, disable your AV software.

If that fails, could you describe the problem a bit more? Does nothing happen when you run the game, or is it black screen, some error message etc. And please post your system / GPU specs.

DirectX 9.0c is installed of course. Always runs as admin. AV enabled, and disabled.

I have a new AMD 7770 card with 1 gig ram, 6 gig system memory, C2D 3ghz CPU. After reading a while on the net it seems the newer the card the more problems people have.

Problem is that nothing happens, the exe launches and then nothing. Sentinels work, without problems, but the original does not. Here.

I am now trying to compile my own d3d9.dll file, seeing as a dll-proxy has been adviced by some and since I am reluctant to download the one above. That's it, so far.

In that case please send support ticket with dxdiag attached and we'll look into it tomorrow. At home I have access to Nvidia cards only and cannot replicate the issue.

It's a long shot, but check if you have any stray 'run32dll.exe' processes running in the background. Often they prevent various applications from starting. You can also try messing a bit with Catalyst settings. Without AMD card of my own can't give you any specifics though.

EDIT: Strange thing, it seems I actually can get it to work without that DLL file but I have to do the following.

1.) Start the game and let nothing happen

2.) Go to task manager and kill game.exe but letting the parent process rundll32.exe be.

3.) Start the game again with the rundll32.exe already active from last time.

Now, I have no explanation for this one.

Strange my GOG version has no problem running under Windows 7 64bit with an ATI Radeon 4500 card and 4 gig of RAM.
It's a relief actually because I remember the hassle I had to go through to get the boxed copy to work.

Yeah. My specs are a quad-core C2D running at 3.0 GHz, GTX560, 4 GB RAM and Win7 64-bit. I was just amazed the game ran without me having to spend half an hour or so finding, downloading and running fan patches.
I'm running W7 64-bit, 6GB RAM.

Silent Storm launches, the nVidia/Jowood trailers run, then it quits back to desktop with the error "game.exe has stopped working." I'm running as admin, tried compatibility mode, etc.

Sentinels works fine. Any ideas?

I have the exact same issue on my laptop (Alienware m11x R1) the first time I run the game after a reboot. It may be related to virus scanners with real-time protection. When I disable real-time protection on MSE the problem seems to go away.
Disabling MSE does not fix the issue for me. I have no other virus software

Sorry but I have no ideas for your crashing issue. My reply was for the issue xiriod is having.
Oh yeah, I know. I just thought I'd clarify what issues I'm having and what fixes I've tried in case the GOG folk are looking into this (hey, I can hope!).

Cheers!
