Hi, just for the record, the game seems to run fine on my machine even though it is not supported according to the system requirements on GoG.

I installed the latest Windows version of QuickTime (7.7.4) and then installed the game. Set the game to compatibility mode for Windows XP (SP3) and ran it.

Set the primary graphics to the AMD 7900 series (which I have) and am running the latest verion of the Catalyst drivers (version 13.4) and the resolution to 800x600.

My system is:
Windows 8 (64-bit)
AMD FX 8350
AMD HD 7950
16GB Mushkin DDR3 at 1600MHz
Asus Crossfire V Formula Z

I was very pleased to see this work, despite not being officially supported :)
If you want to improve graphics resolution and/or you are an hardcore subsim player, take a look at the Silent Hunter II pages published on subsim.com.

Here is the list of mods for this game.

@Atlantico
Thanks for the heads up! I bought the game because of this thread.

@banryu79
Thanks for sharing the link! I'll download everything :D!

EDIT:
It didn't work at all. I got an error while loading any mission about not being able to initialize the video/sound stuff.

Hmmm very strange, I'm running Silent Hunter II in Windows 8.1 now, working 100%

In fact I checked and I'm not even using a compatibility mode, just native Windows 8.1

Be sure to install QuickTime, it is necessary. I hope you work this out! Saludos
Thanks for the answer. I do have the latest version of Quick Time installed.

I haven't installed Windows 8.1, but I double checked Windows Update and it said one optional update was ready to install. After I installed it, now Silent Hunter II refuses to load at all :(. I cannot get into the main menu or the intro videos.

I will update later to Win 8.1, hopefully it will work now, once I do it I'll update this thread with my results.

I don't know what happened but I reinstalled the game and this time worked without doing anything special :O! It really works in Window 8 as you said!

Amazing game! I was advancing to attack a merchant ship which was too far(but I hoped to reach) and then discovered the room where you use the sonar. When I tried it I heard a weird sound, not something I expected, like if I would be hearing an engine. I went back to the map section and I noticed a plane was approaching to me! LOL... I didn't expect it XD.

Yeah, it is a pretty great game, good atmosphere and lots of tension!

Excellent that you got it to work :)

I am running windows 8.1 on a laptop with an Intel hd 4000 ... and the game is broken for sure. However, when I set the .exe files to run with my nvidia 635 gpu, then all is well. I run QuickTime 6.50 so as to be able to run Myst and so far I have not had any problems with either SH II or Myst.

Good call, SHII evidently doesn't work well with Intel graphics.It's a pity, but generally Intel graphics are far less compatible with games than dedicated GPUs.

But this game is clearly compatible with Windows 8.1 and probably Windows 7, but is only classified as XP and Vista compatible.
