Hello, I am new to GOG. If I get Civ 3 will it then work with mods downloaded from other sites?

Yeah, it'll work. Not that I can think of any Civ 3 mods, but Civ 3 and IV are not particularly modified.

civ iv is known for the staggering ammount of mods available for it. it's gamebryo after all (yes, the skyrim engine)

Agreed, civ fanatics is your best option for mods. As others state, I think civ 3 and civ 4 have the biggest number of mods.
