I've downloaded Civ 3 Complete and installed it on my Windows 11 system. When I launch, the resolution changes correctly and the intro begins. But when I click to start or the intro ends, the game screen minimizes to a 3-inch black square in the top left of the desktop. The rest of the screen reverts to the desktop (see attached screenshot). Alt+Tab does not fix it.

Any ideas? I do have a graphics card and tried alternating between the card and the integrated graphics- no luck.

Thanks for the information. I tried it, but it just made the box smaller- still limited to that small area. If I let the entire intro and movie play out at the beginning, then hit a key or click the mouse I at least get a corner of the menu screen showing. Still no full screen.

Same thing happens to me.


Just an unusable small area.


PC is a small laptop with 1366x768 touch screen.


Other GOG games seem to run OK.


I tried Civ 3 on another windows laptop and it worked.

Same here. I have a second laptop at the office and it runs just fine. Beyond frustrating!

Same here. :(
Windows 11, Intro is running fine, resolution changes, then only a black corner in the upper left of the screen.
If I press some keys I can see a small part of the game screen in that corner, but only a small part.
Game seems to be running, but it is not visible.
I can exit it with ESC.

For those who said it is working on an other computer...
It the other computer running Windows 11 as well?
What are the differences between working and not working computers?

I fixed the problem by turning of the intro.

Setting `PlayIntro=0` in Conquests\conquests.ini solved the problem for me. (This also disables the intro...)
