Not to long ago I tried installing my Civ 3 CD on my Win 10 Pc but was unable to get it running so when I saw the Civ 3 Complete here on GOG I jumped on it. When running Civ 3 Complete using the launcher everything seems to work fine but it is apparently running Civ 3 Conquest. I've never had PTW or Conquest just regular Civ 3. According to the readme if I want to use Civ 3 Classic I should go to the directory and start the executable there. However when I do that on my Win 10 PC the program fails to run. I've tried setting compatability to WinXP SP 2/3, Run as Admin but once I acknowledge the allow program to make changes it just disappears. This is the same problem I have when trying to install my cd on both my win 7 and win 10 PC. I can successfully run the program on one of my old WinXp laptops but would rather be able to use my more modern PC. Anyone have any ideas of getting the Vanilla Civ 3 to run?

Hi!
Did you pay attention to this: "Compatibility notice (Windows 8 or later): DirectPlay is required to be installed on Windows 8 and above" from the gog gamecard? Apparently DirectPlay is a component of directx 9.
E.g. see or [url=]http://www.dosgamers.com/directx-9-windows-10-windows-8.
Thank you for the reply and suggestions. Tried installing direct X 9 and turning on Direct play but I see no change. You double click the link and nothing happens.
Just checked to see if the base game ran on my Win 10 computer and it did. I notice that sometimes there is a considerable amount of time lapse between pressing the exe file and the opening screen of the game showing up. maybe it will take your computer an extended amount of time for it to actually show you the starting screen.

Would the amount of time be minutes? hours? I've tried starting and once it disappears I've sat at my PC doing other things for extended periods even playing other games and the classic never starts. What drive do you have it installed on and do you have any compatibility settings? I'm glad it works I just need to figure out how to get it running for me.
It is because Civ 3 use SafeDisc technology, which require secdrv service where Win 10 no longer support due to security reason. And Microsoft disable them on Win Vista, 7, 8 and 8.1 in later security update.
However we can enable secdrv service on those Windows version.
Instruction can follow this link.

Since MS doesn't support WinXP anymore, no update is installed and play it normally.
