It seems that you're using an outdated browser. Some things may not work as they should (or don't work at all).
We suggest you upgrade newer and better browser like: Chrome, Firefox, Internet Explorer or Opera

I can't get Alpha Centauri to open, or at least not anymore. I downloaded the game and installed it into the Applications folder and tried to launch it but it just went to a black screen with the cursor. When I clicked the cursor changed to an X. I tried reinstalling, redownloading, restarting, still the same issue. I tried the suggestions listed on the support page, but they didn't help, either.

I weirdly got it to run once, and it worked great, but that appears to have been a fluke. I also have tried to update the Wineskin engine and the wrapper, but that didn't help either.

There was a previous thread on this where someone told the person to send a tech support request. I tried to send a report to the tech support, but there's no such program as System Profiler on my Mac, and the form won't let me send a report without adding some kind of DXDiag file. Which I can't, because Macs don't use Direct X. Maybe I'm missing something, but yeah, that's frustrating.

Oh, I'm using a mid-2011 Macbook Air:

Processor 1.6 GHz Intel Core i5

Memory 2 GB 1333 MHz DDR3

Graphics Intel HD Graphics 3000 288 MB

Software OS X 10.8.3 (12D78)

Edit: OK, I tried reinstalling (again) and it's working for now. So...I guess until it doesn't work again, nevermind.
OK, it worked for a day or two, then suddenly decided not to. Now it does actually make it to the screen asking whether I want to play Alpha Centauri or Alien Crossfire, and after I click on one (doesn't matter which) the game crashes to the desktop. I redownloaded the intaller and reinstalled again, but it is still doing the same thing. For a day or so it would work if I restarted the computer before launching the game, but that hasn't worked the last five or six times I've tried to play.

Anyone else have these kinds of problems?

Hi,

Did you ever solve your SMAC on mac problem?
I downloaded the mac version and I am having the exact same problem with the blank screen and 'X' at SMAC startup on my iMac.

Sorry, i do not know much about computers. Could it be a memory issue? This is an old iMac and only has 1GB of RAM....but I thought that would be plenty to run an old game?
Mac OSX 10.6.8.

Model Name: iMac
Model Identifier: iMac5,2
Processor Name: Intel Core 2 Duo
Processor Speed: 1.83 GHz
Number Of Processors: 1
Total Number Of Cores: 2
L2 Cache: 2 MB
Memory: 1 GB
Bus Speed: 667 MHz

this iMac has a system profiler, so I will try to send it in as you mentioned in your first post.

D'oh! I finally found the system specs and it appears this iMac is too old to run SMAC. :( Oh well, at least i can try the Win7 version. :)

Minimum system requirements (Mac): Macbook (early 2009), Macbook Pro (mid 2007), IMac (early 2009), MacMini (early 2009), Mac Pro (early 2009), MacBook Air (late 2008). Recommended two-button mouse, or Apple mouse with Secondary Button / Secondary Click enabled.
