My problem is probably the same problem others are having with strange colors (not black and white).

I have tried the fixes indicated. I went into the compatibility mode of the executable and checked "Run in 256 colors". I tried every option for "Run this program in compatibility mode for". I edited my "Alpha Centari.ini" file to include "directdraw=0" and "DisableOpeningMovie=1". I no longer see the opening movie, but my colors are still bonkers.

I'm running Windows 7 Home. I have two AMD Radeon HD 6900 video cards in Crossfire. All help is appreciated. Thanks!

Have you also tried disabling Crossfire for Alpha Centauri? You can always ask support.

I did try disabling Crossfire. I will try asking support. Thank you!
Did you turn off "run in 256 colors" again before you launched the game? That did not work for me either. But it worked perfectly after i edited the Alpha Centauri.ini file. Hope this helps! :)
I'd like to add to this since my particular case caused me hours of grief.

I have an AMD 7970 card, so it may be something particular to the series of cards, but in order to get rid of this problem I had to:

Disable visual themes under the compatibility tab

Disable desktop composition

Disable Display scaling

Run as Admin

Edit the .ini file as previously instructed. (Note: some of the older posts about the .ini refer to a copy of it hidden deep in the Appdata folder, this does not exist for me and editing the .ini in the game folder worked just fine.)

I absolutely could not run in 256 colors from the compatibility tab, and because I believed that that was essential to the fix (due to my own misunderstanding, not because of anything read here) I spent a long time trying to force the game to display the correct colors through external means.

I'd like to hear back from anyone else using a 7XXX card and see if my hypothesis fits.

Just wanted to bump this topic as I was running into color warping until I followed this fine man's advice. Thank you so much sir, soon as I did all that, the colors were fine!

I have a 7950 (Catalyst 13.12) and the game runs just fine under Windows 8.1 *except* all text (even the main menu) is unreadable. I don't use any compatibility settings to run the game. I have tried all sorts of settings, but the text is nearly always unreadable - except one time where it was normal until I moved the mouse over it and then it became unreadable.
New here, i have been looking for hours how to fix this then I went to the site i got it from and looked at the forms and found this. Doing what Ganf did didn't do anything at first but then after updating my amd Catalyst to 13.12 (I have a Radeon 7850) like Atlantico it finally worked. while trying to find a solution I read somewhere that one the the last updates was one of problems. I thought i would share. :)

P.S. I am running Windows 7 Ult if that matters to anyone.
