Has anyone installed a custom faction on the mac version?

I am having problems installing a custom faction on the mac version. The faction editor was extremely crtashy and laggy so I started the new faction wit hthe editor then finished it with a text editor. I have added the faction wit hthe faction editor and via plain text but am unable to find the faction in the game.
