Here is a short guide to translations, some things have to be set up manually, since GOG does not have native mod support.

1. Using an existing translation mod:

Steps for installing mods in GOG:
- Download the mod files. Links for downloading existing translation mods are posted under this forum thread.
- On STTE game screen in gog client find and click "Manage installation/Show folder"
- Create a new folder named "Mods/" and under it create "Translation_de/"
- Copy mod files into the just created folder. In case of translations, files with tsv extension have to be copied.

2. Creating the translation:

- Download “Translation template” files from here:
drive.google.com/drive/folders/1TCK3AXtB57flXlz72PDcUdYLzgGAAzuT?usp=sharing
(it contains base game localization.tsv and additional tsv files used by DLCs)
- Copy everything in localization.tsv file to Google Sheets for editing. Repeat for other tsv files.

3. Editing the translation:

- Enter the name of your language, right next to ":displayName".
- If the language you’re translating to uses different plural forms compared to English then :mozillaPluralRuleNumber needs to be changed too.
- Write translations to the "translation" column on the right. "maxlen" is a hint how many characters fit nicely in the UI. Too long translations may be clipped or can result in tiny text. When 0, there’s usually enough room and there is no need to edit translation into a shorter variant.
- Some text lines contain control characters like \n for newline. It is recommended to preserve these in translated texts. All empty lines without these control characters will be removed.
- Often times there are places like {1} or {0} these are replaced in-game with variable values, number refers to value, you can change the order of these in text. Sometimes there are things like {1:+0;-0;+0} or {0:0.00}, these are also variables, but in different format, latter is a numeric value with comma for example.
- To test a translation, export it from Google Sheets using “File->Download as…->Tab separated values” into “Mods/Translation english/localization.tsv” in the game installation folder (note that “Mods/Translation english/” folder must be created).
- From now on when a game is started, the English translation should be available in the language dropdown in the game menu.

Note: Localization file name is not important. For the game to load it, it only needs to have a tsv extension.

4. Publishing

Since GOG doesn't have a way to share mods similarly to Steam Workshop, to publish, pack your files together, upload them and post a link for downloading it under this forum thread.

Deutsche Version
Hallo, ich bin der Ersteller der deutschen Sprachversion von STTE.
Ihr könnt die letzte Version hier kriegen:
github.com/DukeDukeEm/Translation_ShortestTripToEarth_German/releases
Klickt einfach auf 'Source code (zip)' um alle Dateien zu bekommen die ihr braucht.

Der Ordner in den ihr die zip-Inhalte enpacken müsst liegt in den meisten Fällen wahrscheinlich hier:
C:\Program Files (x86)\GOG Galaxy\Games\Shortest Trip to Earth\Mods

Mein Mod wird primär auf Steam verwaltet (für Fragen & Vorschläge):
steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2456105658

Click on 'Source code (zip)' to get all the files you need.

The folder in which the content of the zip-archive has to be unpacked is in most cases probably here:
C:\Program Files (x86)\GOG Galaxy\Games\Shortest Trip to Earth\Mods

My mod is primarily maintained on Steam (for questions and requests):
steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2456105658

PS: since nobody else ever posted here: there is also a chinese, japanese and a russian translation available

Hi,

thanks a lot for sharing the translation here. It's really too bad one needs a steam account to get patches like language extensions.

Do you have an idea how to install the translation on a Linux install?

[Edit]
I found it. A folder "Mods" has to be created in the "game" folder. I put DukeDuke_em s tsv-files into ./myGameInstall/game/Mods/Translation_de

Thanks again for creating the files!
