I notice this latest release has more items in it, even a more flushed out skill system by a bit.
If we copy the module from the original game and play it in SHK, will we get the weapons and skills from that game?
Will that even work?

There's an active discussion about that in the following thread:

I haven't looked into it myself, but the folks that have said it doesn't work.

I quickly tried this a few hours ago just for a laugh (something to do while waiting for the latest patch). More specifically, I tried to run Dragonfall DC in HK.

Basically it's glitchy as hell, and needs some modding before it'll work properly, or even be properly playable.

It mainly comes down to how they've named items and how they inherit them in HK. You could plonk DMS into DF easily enough, since both DMS and DF had some things in common (from Seattle). The ones that weren't in common were new things added by DF, so no problem there.

For HK, a lot of "base" items have been renamed. I'm pretty sure all the resources (graphics, music, sound, etc) from both DF:DC and DMS are actually available in HK (believe it or not); however as they're now located in HK, the naming convention/inheritance has changed.

So, in order to get DMS or DF:DC working in HK, one would likely have to:
1) Save the resources these games use as source
2) Change all resources that inherit from DF:DC or DMS to point to the new HK ones, or to point to the old DF:DC/DMS ones (which have been moved/renamed in HK).
2) b) It may be required to import "Berlin" in addition to "DragonfallExtended" if importing DF:DC.
3) Change the dependencies of the Dragonfall_extended and DMS to point to HK.

I don't think it'll be as crazy-difficult as people have said - looking at the resources available in HK it looks like most stuff is already there, and stuff that isn't can be copied across. If renaming things, then it might not be that hard - but if looking to use the new HK gear then it might be more annoying. In some cases the "old" gear may require updating to work with the new HK system (cyber probably requires this).
Ah I see.
All right, thanks for the info guys! :-)

Pitty they didn't make it all backwards comparable; I so enjoy this series and would like to play through the original with all the improvements.
So it's theoretically doable, but even if you manage to run old content in the latest game, there will be too many small bugs, incompatibilities and inconveniences, so it's simply not worth doing something the developers didn't envisage.

Looks that way at the moment unfortunately.

Which is a shame, since at the least it would be cool to get the new inventory management system into Dragonfall. But it's not worth screwing around just for that - especially since DF either wouldn't use most of the other new features/items (unless added manually - which would be way more work on top of what's already required).

Maybe they'll release a "Ultimate Director's Cut Special Edition Mega Pack" containing both HK and DF at some point.

That would be awsome!
I'd buy it. :-)

Same here. Just being able to play DF with the improved (i.e. not retarded) inventory management would make it worth it. Not to mention the new cyberware, adept spells, stims and weapons.

Not that all of it would get put into DF - Berlin's a continent away and a year earlier - but most of the non-unique non-Hong-Kong-themed stuff should.

It'd also be cool if there were a second HK campaign that takes place prior to this one, but follows on from DF using the same character. I wouldn't mind being able to have high karma characters for once, provided balance can be maintained.

Yeah that would be fun too.
The main problem with any of the Shadowrun games since the original is that there's not more storyline and playing on as my same character. X-D

I'd like to do some more normal missions after that and get the feeling of power as normal creatures are cannon fodder before me! MWUAHAHAHAHA

There were a few UGCs for the "original" SRR that allowed importing characters. Unfortunately you'd end up OP if you imported a character from any of these campaigns, plus those UGCs weren't very good from memory (the best ones started with fresh characters for some reason).

I tried a few of those.
The only ones that looked really good also had the most bugs... like the game would take longer and longer to transition between non-load doorways in this one that was supposed to be a persistant world. :-s

I own Shadowrun Chronicles as well, but I just don't like it cause they changed so much. Last time I tried it, they still had EVERY character taking turns even with no enemies.
That was the main bug with another really short, but really good mod too... the combat turns never ended even when they all dead. >.<

If you're looking for a really good UGC, my new favourite is definitely "The Antumbra Saga", which was previously 3 separate parts in "original" SRR, and has been converted to DF:DC with all three parts in one UGC. The start isn't that fantastic but it gets pretty good by the time you reach San Francisco, and even better in part 3 (which is also the longest part).

My previous favourite was "A Stitch in Time". While I'm sure this is still a good mod, I don't think it's been converted to the Director's Cut. It'll probably still run, but will likely be unbalanced and/or have other bugs. Which is a shame as it's one of the longest and most interesting.

Thanks for the tip. I'll check it out. :-)
Huh turns out "The Antumbra Saga is the one I played before; the one I referred to as being stuck in combat. X-D
