i'm trying to play the game on my laptop (W7), and it seems to work pretty well, exept for the controls. They tend to be very ... floaty and unresponsive.

My two main issues are that shadowman is almost ice skating instead of walking, sometimes just sliding to the sides or even backwards from time to time, and he also seems to be jumping up slightly all the time (as if he is glitching in the floor).

Secondly are the mouse controls, these seem to be completely unusable for me. Ingame, i can't run and aim with the mouse to turn because that goes inhumanly slow. While holding shift, it goes at 200 kph.

Anyway got the same problems or preferably a solution? Or is this just a matter of settings, in which case any help is much appreciated.

Thanks!
First, I would suggesr not using the mouse. There is little point. The game controls pretty much like Tomb Raider (although the movements are much more flowy and not as rigid), it has auto-aim, and you only need the strafing button when fighting. So you are better off just playing with the keyboard.

As for your other problem... I guess it depends on tastes? I agree that Mike moves a bit floaty, and sometimes a bit glitchy, but it's not as bad as you say (perhaps you have some problems due to the laptop keyboard?).

Are you playing with v-sync on? In my case the game was running at astronomical framerates, which resulted in glitchy, jumpy movements. Even with vsync on though it still does feel a bit floaty. The mouse is shit regardless, I don't think there is a way to remedy that. A workaround for the superspeed could be third party software (dynamic dpi reduction while aiming comes to mind - e.g. with Logitech g600)
Same issue with the slow mouse movement speed. I feel uncomfortable playing with the arrow keys to turn and wasd to walk forward/back and strafe and z/x for each hand. Any suggestions for other more comfortable keybindings?

I use Q, E for strafing, A, D for turning, l-alt for lock on, all other stuff on numpad. Don't use the mouse.

The mouse didn't even work for me whatsoever, but I agree; this is a keyboard-driven game.
talking about a challange :).

I guess i'll have to play it the hard way, KB + KB it is!

I really want to complete Shadow Man, never managed it on the N64. Had to quit at the Asylum part.
I never beat this game due to a scratched PS1 disc. Still, even having never beaten it, I have always said this is one of my favorite games. Still, I find it hard to believe that the mouse support won't work at all. My version of the game doesnt even seem to register the mouse. I was hoping for a play style like the PC versions of the GTA games. But I suppose if I have to use the keyboard I will. Do you think XPadder or something similar would allow controller support?
I tried using a controller, but the lack of customization makes it rather unwieldy. Switched to a combination keyboard + num pad, and it works like a charm. Keyboard for movement, strafe, snipe/zoom ; and num pad for hands, action, inventory, target lock/strafe. I strongly recommend taking time to use zoom for vertical views, the world has such an insane amount of detail.
I'm using an Xbox 360 controller with no problems whatsoever. The buttons are fully customisable from the options menu. The only things that weren't were the sticks, nor would the triggers work. Seeing as the game was pretty much designed around a single analog stick and one set of triggers, I never found any of those things to be an issue.
Maybe try Keysticks program and a profile ,Google for ' Winning117s ShadowMan Keysticks Profile ' .
