[THIS GUIDE HAS BEEN UPDATED ON APRIL 10TH, 2024. THE PREVIOUS ITERATION OF THE GUIDE WAS NOT RELIABLE. THIS HAS BEEN FIXED!]

For those of you who own the GOG version of Serious Sam 4 and want to download content from the Steam Workshop, you can follow the steps below. This guide assumes you know where your SS4 copy is installed.

1) Download the WorkshopDL's installer from this link: https://github.com/imwaitingnow/WorkshopDL/releases/latest
2) Install the program normally.
3) (OPTIONAL) Create a shortcut of its executable to your desktop.
4) Launch it. If it asks you to download SteamCMD, click "Yes" and let it do its thing. The program will need SteamCMD to download mods.
5) Copy the Workshop link of the item you want to download and paste it into the "Workshop mod URL" field. This will only grab the necessary ID of the item (map, mod, etc.).
6) This is kinda weird, but now you have to click an empty space of the program window, preferably below the "Auto-find homepage" option. This will fill in the other necessary information to download the item.
7) On the "Download Provider" option, make sure "SteamCMD" is selected.
8) Click "Download". This will open SteamCMD to download the item for you. Your SteamCMD may auto-update first, but your download will start soon after, don't worry.
9) After the process is finished, the program will ask you if you want to open the folder that contains your item. Click "Yes".
10) This will open a folder with three files: a. gro file, a .jpg file, and a .txt file. We only need the .gro file here. The rest is only to provide some information.
11) (OPTIONAL) Rename the .gro file so it matches the name of the item you downloaded, for organization purposes.
12) Move the .gro file to Serious Sam 4\Content\SeriousSam4 (this is where other .gro files are located). The item is installed now.
13) Launch Sam4_Unrestricted.exe, which is located in Serious Sam 4\Bin\x64. The item should work in-game!

Please, let me know if something goes wrong.

I hope this has been useful. Have fun! :D

No "Sam4_Unrestricted.exe" in the GOG version the last time I checked. That's a Steam thing.
Yup. First we have to convince Croteam to provide the Unrestricted .exe in the GOG release.

I just added my voice in the existing Steam forums thread about this. Feel free to bump it/make your voice heard there.

As we've recently finally got the Unrestricted .exe, bumping this with a note that the site in the OP no longer provides downloads. You can still use the site to generate download links for you but you have to copy and paste them into SteamCMD (which you have to download) and download the mod files yourself.

But at least it works. Currently in the process of downloading various mods. Once I'm done, will try to load them up in the game.

EDIT:
The mods work fine. Just tested the dozen or so mods I downloaded from the Steam Workshop. Time to replay the game with some community made improvements :)

Hi guys,

just tried to follow your instructions. I am trying to install the 16 player coop mod from Steam Workshop and get it to work with the GoG Version of Serious Sam. (NSKuber's 16 Players Co-Op)

I was able to download the mod with the SteamCMD but it doens't work so far. What I don't understand is point 2 and point 4 of your instructions: you're saying that I have to copy the .gro file to my Steam-Serious Sam folder, and then in point 4 to start the Sam4_Unrestricted.exe from a Steam directory. But...isn't the whole point of this thread here to get it to run with the GoG version? What am I missing here? Am I supposed to copy all content from the GoG folder over to the Steam folder structure?

Help would be much appreciated.

Thanks in advance,
Pip

The steps in the first post are wrong. The OP just copy pasted it from some Steam guide and didn't bother changing the paths for GOG.

Anyway, just drop the .gro files into install folder/Content/SeriousSam4. The game will load them up automatically when you use the unrestricted .exe to launch it.

But regarding your specific mod, it might not work. As it's a multiplayer mod, I'm not sure it's going to be compatible with the GOG version.

I never received any notification of any replies here after all these years... Thank you, GOG.
Sorry about the instructions, it was an honest mistake. And no, I didn't copy-paste any Steam guide.

I'll find some time to edit the main post and provide accurate instructions.

No worries.

Sorry if my reply came off a little harsh :P
The main post has been completely rewritten with a new guide.

Any constructive feedback is welcome!
