Steam no longer has the original Serious Sam games. They have modded versions with no way to install the originals any more.

It's not that the GOG Serious Sam: First Encounter is outdated compared to Steam's, it's that GOG actually has the original game that Steam doesn't.

That said, in Video Options, go into Rendering Options, and turn on Widescreen. It will enable some wide screen resolutions. Not all the ones you might want, but at least some.

Are you referring to

http://store.steampowered.com/app/41000/Serious_Sam_HD_The_First_Encounter/?

Or are you talking about
http://store.steampowered.com/app/41050/Serious_Sam_Classic_The_First_Encounter/?

(edited much later after seeing how mangled the URLs mysteriously became)

You seem to have misunderstood. Steam has the original games and additionally an "improved" version Serious Sam Classics: Revolution (currently the original games can't be purchased seperately, but Classics: Revolution includes both).
