I had the original game waaay back, and I remember you could make a screenshot with F9. But now I get the error message
v1.04 Panic in Level XXXX
BREAKPOINT 0x8000003 @ 0x757a3226

(F5 Quicksave, F8 Quickload work fine.)

Same happens with the console command "MAPMAKER"

Ha, I got exactly same problem with another game too (and with Septerra Core now, as i checked).

Here's what you can do with Septerra Core. Press Print-Screen button instead F9, and then use "Paste" in MS Paint (or similar program). I checked it just now, it works, just requires 1 more step.
Actually, IrfanView can make a Screenshot even easier. That's actually not really the problem. I'm near the end of the game, deep in the Catacombs on Shell 3. And also terrible lost. That "MAPMAKER" cheat code would allow me to plan my way, detect Switches, Chests etc. The Maps under Game Goodies were made with exactly that command, as the
file names tell.
In that case I might suggest you to check following links:

1. Septerra Core Walkthrough
2. Septerra Core in LPArchive
3. Septerra Core on GameFAQs

I remember how many times I got stuck in this game back when Internet and online game guides weren't so readily available. Local gaming magazine had walkthrough for first parts of game luckily, but they never finished it. I was stuck on Draxx statue for a month, until the new issue of gaming magazine was released :)
Thanks, but I'm in the middle of the dungeon, operated a few switches...I hadn't touched the game in a long time, and I didn't wanted to restart from scratch. But since all the Let's Plays and Walkthroughs cannot help me now (But don't get me wrong! You did an awesome job typing and screenshotting all this!) I guess I have no choice but start from the beginning.

But yeah, some puzzles in this game easily surpass Sierra's level. Back then I had a handwritten (!) list with all interactable stuff I found. If I would get stuck, I tried X with Y,Z, and so on. But that strategy failed me on Shell 7 trying to enter Bone Circle Village. THAT needed me to show something to an NPC... on Shell 3. So I called my boyfriend at three o'clock in the morning (He had internet)
You can also buy official game guide, used are very cheap on amazon or ebay. There is detailed walkthrough (but without hidden items), and other useful stuff like descrpition of fate card, where to find them, or when new equipment is available. It's easier and faster to have book in hand and look for help. For that you don't need internet or look everytime for solution on many net pages.
Allright, I found the solution. It crashes because of Timeslip's unofficial patch. To remove it, you need to remove (or rename) the ddraw.dll file from the Septerra Core directory. Now the F9 screen shots and the MAPMAKER command work. To reinstall Timeslip's patch ( movies are not being played without it - for me at least ) you just have to move that DirectDraw file back to the SC directory.

Thanks for letting us know the solution. I thought solution was something more global than that, as I have similar problems with screenshotting in some other games.
