I highly doubt this'll get a response, but I don't know where else to turn. I downloaded Quicktime Alternative, and I set the game's compatibility mode to Windows XP(Service Pack 2), and got the movie files to work.

Sadly, the downside is that the in game graphics become a pink mess, two screens instead of one, and flickering. When I switch off the compatibility mode, the movie files don't play, but the graphics are back to normal. I have no idea what's causing this. It would be great to know why this happens.

Here's the picture of what I'm talking about. http://imgur.com/jUsPEB0

I have the steam version, so I assume that the gog version isn't much different, except that the gog version has the fix for skipping dialogue.

Did you try killing explorer.exe before starting the game?

I remember trying out these instructions http://www.gog.com/forum/septerra_core_legacy_of_the_creator/graphic_fix_for_windows_78

and I think it didn't make a difference. I'll try again by disabling the explorer.exe, but I highly doubt it'll fix it.

Edit: Just tried it, and the messy pink graphics still happened.

Bump

I think I found the connection with the pink graphics. The QuickTime.qts file, located in "QuickTime\QTSystem", seems to be the reason why it happens. I even tested it out by copying it to the Septerra Core folder, and turning off compatibility mode. The cutscenes play, but only the audio, no video, and the pink graphics happen.

It also seems to generate a QuickTime.qtp file when you run the game with the qts file in it. Still, why EXACTLY it causes pink graphics, is a mystery to me.

Edit: Actually, I extracted the QuickTime.qts file from QuickTime 4.0's install exe and used that to test it out(the one that causes the cutscenes to be black with audio only). The QuickTime.qts file in QuickTime 7(I uninstalled QuickTime Alternative and reinstalled QuickTime 7 since QuickTime 4.0 just refuses to work now after uninstalling it, and reinstalling it multiple times) is what the game will go to, I think, when the game's compatibility mode is set to Windows XP(Service Pack 2)
