Although I'm a bit long in the tooth, I'm a complete noob to mods, and each time I look to MOD DB or other sites, I start getting confused by the acronyms, which game is being referenced, etc... and posters who often take for granted their extensive knowledge of both the games and mods for each. With that said, I'm hoping that some helpful salts out there might list mods for each game in the SEA DOGS series (and a basic, straightforward how-to in order to implement them). I have to imagine this would be a great resource to many. It would certainly be a godsend to me.

Many, many thanks.

Great thread :(

I just got City of Abandoned Ships myself after people claimed it's considered the best/most modable/supported game of this series but I'm having a hard time finding a quick start guide for the essentials.

COAS lacks an in-game tutorial because most of it is explained in the manual, which can be downloaded here.

Or you can watch this video where the guy goes through step-by-step about the mechanics, and there are a lot of them!
I meant a quick start guide for the essential tweaks/fixes/improvements/mods as per the thread topic :P

I can't recommend any mods, since I usually play the vanilla versions. There is however, a minor tweak for City of Abandoned Ships that I'd suggest.

One of the quests in the game involves visiting the City of Abandoned Ships. At the end of this particular questline, you’ll be facing a very nasty storm. I won’t say much else, to not spoil the experience, but that particular part can be annoying as [censored]. Some people straight up gave up after hours of trying to beat it.

If, when you get to that point, you find it’s too hard to handle, there’s a quick way to change the weather so it’s less absurd:

1. Find the weather scripts: [game folder]/ Program/Weather/WhrWeather.c
2. Open that file in Notepad
3. Find the line that sets locations[iCurLocation].MaxWaveHeigh = 40.0
4. Change that value. I suggest 20.0
5. Reset the value to normal, after you end the quest.

(The game generally has some problems with being stupid-hard and frustrating-hard in places, during more complex quests. Not challenging, just overdone. Otherwise very fun.)

The original Seadogs is a pretty old game now and the support forum has been inactive for years. However, it is still there and there is stuff there to help you figure out how to play the game. http://thelib.com/forum/
Also I don't know if this link still works because I am a former staff member who was banned from PA! but try this as well: http://www.piratesahoy.net/threads/a-seadogs-guide-everything-you-always-wanted-to-know.16/

As far as Caribbean Tales goes, there is really no difference in how to play this game then the ones after except for quests. I recommend loading the Supermod by Cyberops for this game as it really adds a lot of good content and fixes all bugs. You can get it from Pirates Ahoy! as well. Don't know if this link works, but try it anyway. http://www.piratesahoy.net/threads/aop-super-mod.8397/
Here's the tips thread if it still works: http://www.piratesahoy.net/forums/age-of-pirates-gameplay-tips.63/

As far as CoAS goes I would recommend my own guides on my website.

https://buccaneersreef.com/forums/topic/tips-on-how-to-play-when-youre-just-starting-out/

https://buccaneersreef.com/forums/topic/sword-fighting-tutorial-for-coas/

https://buccaneersreef.com/forums/topic/cheating-in-coas/

Last for To Each his Own, there is a brand new guide released on STEAM that covers everything. Very well done I might add. You can get it here: http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=942607685

I hope these links are of some use to GOG members playing this AWESOME game series!

PS for people wondering why I got banned from PA it was not because I did some horrible thing. Its just because I called a moderator deleting my posts for no good reason a "Hitler nutjob"
