Just loaded Sea Dogs up for the first time and the graphics are a mess. It's unplayable.

I mean, if I close my eyes it's technically still running, but as soon as I open them I see a world of flickering characters, storefronts that double as hall of mirrors, and terrifying random white daggers of light cutting through the world.

Maybe this is meant to happen, maybe my character is crazy, and the game is about his search for some sort of scurvy support system, or an Age of Sail antipsychotic.

Somehow, I doubt it.

Possible workaround: I think the game might have been using my integrated graphics card, an Intel HD 4000 or something like that.

1. I went into the NVIDIA Control Panel
2. Manage 3D Settings
3. Change "Preferred graphics processor" from "Auto-select" to "High-performance NVIDIA processor"

...this is probably something I should have done the minute I got his laptop, but there you go. I'm a little surprised this old game couldn't work with my humble integrated graphics card, but now it seems like all is well, at least based on a half minute of walking around town, free of crippling hallucinations.

Edit: If you want to leave it set to auto-select, you can also set this on a game-by-game basis, which is what I did with Sea Dogs. Now Sea Dogs works without forcing the high-performance card in every case.

yeah same unfortunately
I'm also suffering from the same problem, only I dont have such settings to fiddle with on my graphics card because my graphics card is the default Windows HD graphics card.

Would love an update or patch that could fix this, or another work around.

:/
honestly, dont think this is going to be addressed, it doesnt seem to be high on anyones priority list

Have you contacted GOG support? They emailed me a couple of suggestions. Mostly "update drivers" and "change gfx settings" stuff, but it's worth a shot. :)
I had the exact same issue. At first I was at the highest resolution but then when I lowered resolution to 1024 x 768 all was fine. Can't believe I'm playing this wide screen in fact. :)

Have a Radeon R5 M230 in my laptop. Tried this after the first glitches showed up and it's still there. Help would be nice :(
I'm away from home for a long time, with a laptop equipped with unsupported Intel integrated videocard, so for me it seems to be an irresolvable problem. Would be nice of course if someone patches it to make compatible, but meh... not much hope for that.

Anyways, it's good to have this game in the stash, someday I'll get back to normal PC.
I'm getting something similar, but only in certain areas, like the ships as shown below.

Zeus's problem appears as if the program is not properly refreshing the screen, while in mine it appears as if the polygons drawn have some coordinates set to 0,0; perhaps it's a rounding error. I have played this game before from the original CDs and they where fine then. I have tried compatibility with Win XP and Win 95/98, but there's no change. I hope this can be patched or a simple solution can be found.
