I regret purchasing the proprietary Maelstrom engine on itch.io, just in the hopes of playing this series without the bugs and issues the original versions are known for. (It was my first and will be my only ever purchase there.) All it does for me is hang on the loading screen and support on the site seems to be all but nonexistent. The "official support link" takes me to a 404 page. Supposedly this engine was built from the original engine's source code being released. If that's so, has somebody somewhere with better ethics released an open source engine to run these games?

Did you manage to sort it out?

Nope. I gave up and lost interest.
