I can't find any footage online of XBOX button-prompts in this game. All the footage is of people playing with keyboard+mouse. The game is marked as having full controller support on the store-page, and I saw a developer mention somewhere on a Steam forum post that controller support is a new feature in the remaster, not present in the original PC release. I personally grew up playing the game on my original XBOX, and have a great deal of nostalgia for it. That's why I'm going to be playing with a classic Xbox Controller S. I don't expect the game to have button-prompts for the black & white buttons of course, but I really hope the game at least has modern Xbox 360 or One/Series button-prompts.

I've just reinstalled the game to check it for you - the Xbox Series X gamepad works without any issues. There is a separate menu entry to see the controls, but there aren't any button prompts ingame - but I think it was almost just like that in the original Xbox version, see it i.e. here. - there are only few prompts there and now they're replaced for example by an exclamation mark icon in the modern version.

Do buy the game, it's fantastic! :-)

Thanks so much for installing it to check that for me.

That's great. I would prefer if the game had actual button-prompts just like the original XBOX version, but I can easily tolerate it if the prompts are just replaced by icons, like the A button being an exclamation mark instead. I was going to buy and play it again some time regardless of if this was an issue or not, I just really wanted to know beforehand.

I've never self-modded a game before, but I wonder if it would be possible to inject the button-prompts from the XBOX version of the game into the PC remaster for more authenticity to the original console version.

This change was probably made because of different types of controllers on the market with different button icons. You'll remember the controls in no time :-) Have fun in Scrapland!
