After many game crashes I finally managed to get it running somewhat okay. Now the problem is that in the Circus area where my character was on her way to the Circus tent she got 'stuck' in front of that guy with the balloon on his head and I can't move her out of the way.
I have clicked a thousand times and she continues to be stuck, I cannot move her anywhere.
I do not want to start the game from the beginning because I had saved it and now it is saved with this glitch...
Love the game but so tired of all the problems I am having with it.
Any feedback or possible solution/s would be greatly appreciated.
And I am running windows 7 and did the things it said to do to run the game properly, ie: disabling the virtual themes, choosing XPSP3, 256 color, and running as Admin.
That clown moves about quite a bit on his own unless this glitch has him stuck as well. Have you just left the game running for a while to see if the clown moves out of your way?
If you can't get past the glitch and you don't want to start over, i've uploaded my savegames a while back, so give those a try if you wish.
You can get the savegames from here. There's a save at the beginning of each chapter.

Thanks, I did leave the game running but the clown must have been caught in the glitch as well.
I ended up starting over from scratch at level 1 and then discovered that I could access the circus tent from the other side and did not need to get past the clown only had to talk to him. Live and learn lol.

Thank you, I appreciate this and wish I had waited as I ended up starting the entire game over. I have been saving it every few mintues as the game constantly crashes on me and I also backed up an 'extra' save to eliminate the possibility of getting stuck again.

You're welcome. Pitty that you're getting all those crashes. Maybe try Win98/ME compatibility insted of XP to see if makes a difference.

I will give that a try as I am not happy with how the game is running. In the last 4 hours of game play it has crashed countless time and now that I am on the very last chapter it is crashing every few minutes. I have never had problems with any game before. Not sure what it is but if this is the case I am not going to be buying any more games from here.
I have purchased many many games over the last few years and have had no trouble at all.
That this game crashes is in no way GOG's fault.
This game is famous for its crashes and very picky about machine configuration.
Those that has no crashes are just the lucky ones....

If I had known that ahead of time I would not have purchased the game. This is the most frustrating game I have every played. It is a great game and would have been so nice to actually enjoy it.
You would think there should be some mention of its unreliability since it is being offered for sale on here.

Well, i had no real trouble with it on Win7 64 bits and i didn't even had to do any 'special' tweaking other than trying different combinations of compatibility settings. Like misslilo mentioned, Sanitarium is known for being a bit picky about configurations and settings and sometimes it requires a bit of extra tweaking.
A few more things you could try
-If you have a dual core gpu or if you're using SLI/Crossfire, look into that
-See if slowing down your cpu a bit solves the issue, either by using an app/tool or by leaving a few application running in the background while you play
-Fiddle with the compatibility settings. At one point xp sp3 was working for me, but after i updated my nvidia drivers a while back for some reason it became unplayable under that, now it works fine with win98/me compatibility

I did try changing around the configurations and also have had multiple applications running.
The only thing I was able to do was save the game every few minutes. The worst problem with crashing is at the very last level when Max has to defeat Morgan. At the mimi game where Max has to avoid the black tar and smash the orbs, the game crashed every few minutes and on a consistant basis regardless of how many times I re started the game or changed things around.
I am going to leave it alone for now and try again at a later time to complete this last level.

Hope it works better for you when you decide to return to it to finish that last level.
in the off-chance is some weird multicore problem - you could try cpu control and limit it to a single core. Warning - its a bit unintuative to use.
