EDIT: Ok the game wont crash if i run the exe directly from the folder and not through the gogo shortcut, however the game looks funny. And the crashes happen after every cutscene if using the gog patched shortcut.

Help! The game just crashes and quits after viewing the second cutscene in chapter 1 after plugging in the VCR. Ive tried uninstalling and reinstalling it to somewere other than programe files (As i heard this can cause problems) but this has not worked. I really want to get into this game but i cant D:

Have you tried running the game under vista or win XP compatibility? You can do so by right clicking the games shortcut, going to properties and then the compatibility tab. I would also disable visual themes and desktop compostion from this screen as well as run it as administrator.
I'm running Windows XP and I get the exact same crash. I have tried compatibility mode, altering the game settings, and running the game directly from the directory rather than using the gog shortcut, to no avail.
Run the game in win 95 compability and with all of the boxes checked. If the game shows some weird colors try "alt-tab" out to windows and then "alt-tab" back in. Wolrked for me :)
Checking all the boxes just made it crash sooner.
This doesn't play, alone in the dark doesn't play, I got so much money I czan afford to throw it down the toilet right? GOG better get their act together.
I have this same issue! Please help us GOG!
This helped for me on Windows XP:

Locate sntrm.exe in the Sanitarium folder, and set compatibility mode to Windows 98 / Windows ME. Do not check anything else. Install CPU killer, and set it to something like 50% (experiment with the exact value), the game might just start to run tiny bit 'sluggish' but it won't crash.

experiment with running running sntrm.exe directly.
