I love horror. But I need it to be serious. I don't care for tong-in-cheek horror. So what do you think? Worth my time?

From what I've played it didn't seem goofy, I got over halfway through the game before apparent hardware limitations made me have to take a break from it. It is all taken seriously and sometimes gruesome in context. The Windigo were terrifying to fight. Be prepared for tower defense with tough survival horror combat. Nothing super gory though.
I thing it comes down to how you like your horror. If you like the typical fright-horror this might not be for you, if you like splatter, it's neither. Fear is not really a factor... okay fear is a game mechanic, but it's about how afraid the monsters are of you. It's at no point that the protagonists would be afraid of the situation. They are adressing it like a real down to earth problem. It's like "Last night, I was attacked by a werewolf!" - "Yeah we should set up traps, they are getting annoying."
However the atmosphere at night is quite dense. The wolfs appearing from the darkness of the forest is really done nicely. And the factor that you can just control the enemies near you and you have to rely on your plans to take care of the enemies on the map is also quite satisfiing. Imagine it this way: You're at the mill battling some monsters, these take you longer than expected, suddenly you realize that a trap didn't sprung or a bait was finished to soon and while you are held up, the wolves are comming for your family.

I don't know if you have watched the third of the Ginger Snaps movies (which also happens to be ca Canadian werewolf movie set in the same time and place) and liked it, you might enjoy the horror of this game as well.

Bullshit 'at no point would the protagonist going to be afraid';
try being surrounded by 2 wendigos 2 great werewolves and 4 normal werewolves with a pack of 5 wolves all because they didn't use the traps you carefully layed out for their enjoyment. :\
But there isn't any shock horror (i agree), this is not a penumbra bad guys chase you and you can largely do squa.. well at times it is, but it just doesn't have that atmosphere.
It might of tried with a restricted view distance that makes guns utterly ridiculous, but no there is no horror.
There are head spins though.. plenty of fun with a round spinning mini-map disorienting you while your trying to turn towards a hardly visible landmark only to find the map has turned so you have to try to figure which way is 'up' again.
