So, after reading some posts on this forum, I know I'm not the only one who has noticed that the AI seems to be broken?I still have my old jewel case CD version of this game, and while the single player wasn't terribly hard, I felt the bots put up enough resistance to at least make it fun and feel a bit rewarding.. they'd cast a lot of spells and summon creatures very often, and also retrieve their souls from dead creatures very quickly. Now as I'm playing, the AI just runs around with a few creatures and does nothing (in some instances, they won't even make Manaliths... I was playing James level 9, and I hadn't been attacked once, and Hachimen was just standing by his altar with all of his creatures, he hadn't even made the manalith next to his altar! I also tried 2v2 Skirmish against AI and all 3 bots sat at a manafount, doing nothing.

Does anyone know what has caused this or if there is any way to fix it? I'd love to revisit the single player campaign for some nostalgic fun... I used to play multiplayer back in the day so I had my fair share of playing against people, but I really just wanted to re-visit the single player.. it's the whole reason I bought the gog version of Sacrifice for my windows 7 PC to begin with..

I also own the original CD of ShinY's classic, Sacrifice but never encountered that issue you mentioned.

If anything, most beginners have expressed how difficult playing against the A.I. really is!
:)

Maybe you've just hit your peak in dealing with Sacrifice's computer controlled opponent.

Thanks for taking the time to reply!

Well I like to think I'm a decent player, I did pretty OK in multiplayer back in the day, but I swore something was up.. I mean, I've beaten the campaign with all 5 gods numerous times in the past, so I'm familiar with the AI..and I was right!

I'm not entirely sure what caused this issue or how to avoid it in future, but I set the Sacrifice.exe to run in Windows 98 compatibility mode and that completely fixed the issue I was explaining... The wide screen patch stopped working as a result of this too.. but I don't care about that at this point, I'm just glad I'm able to actually play the game.

So if anyone else has this issue, I suggest you try my suggested fix above. I have NO IDEA why this worked for me, but it did.

Did it ever occur to you that if the player has 100% control of the map and the opponent can no longer fight back effectively, that the player can torture the opponent by slaying them over and over again instead of desecrating their alter?

Yes actually, I distinctly remember playing Charnels level 6 mission and massing Abominations, protecting Charlotte and torturing Hachimen and Buta repeatedly, in the same manner you've mentioned. I was a young kid and had a short attention span, and was mesmerized by the game design (this was in about 2003 I believe)

Actually, Sacrifice came out around 2000, but who's counting, eh?
:)

The point I was making is that you had concerns about the A.I. seemingly unaware there were additional opportunities the game offers.
The torture aspect of the game made Sacrifice very unappealing to newbies which is why the game never game popularity.

Oh well...
Don't want to step on any toes here by resurrecting this post, but I once again got the urge to replay Sacrifice's campaign and wanted to post an update here in case it can help anyone else.

I ran into the same issue of the AI being extremely passive (almost totally unresponsive, really), but instead of running in Windows 98 compatibility mode like I did in 2017 (which made the wide screen patch stop working), I did a little research and found that the AI becomes this way when you have above 60 FPS. I have a 144 HZ monitor so I just changed my monitor's display settings in Windows to 60 FPS and it's working just fine with the wide screen patch & Patch 3.1!

There are probably better ways of capping the FPS but I didn't bother trying, I just wanted to play the game already. Also, I am on Windows 10 now, but when I last played in 2017 I was on Windows 7.

I highly recommend to not use patch 3.1 anymore. It was a patch that was making people connect to other server instead of gamespy, with some security upgrade. None of those server work novadays, so the patch does nothing, and it's also false positive for some antiviruses, since it was made like few years ago it's possible that one you are gonna get may contain real virus...
