I know many say the story doesn't matter in this game, but I just can't decide between light or shadow campaign for my dragon mage. Any opinions?
The Dragon Mage is the only character not affected by choosing Light or Shadow for his personal quest (there's only one version of his quest).

So you're really just choosing which main campaign and side quests you would like to do. The Light Path makes more sense, since it's about ridding the world of T-Energy (basically a competing type of magic vs Dragon Magic). You can also do the Light Path version of The Dragon Cult quest in Act V, which is about exposing corruption and conspiracies in the Cult that the Dragon Mage belongs to.

The Shadow version of the Dragon Cult and the Main quest are fine too, if you want roleplay a bad guy. It's all about being power-hungry and ruthless.

Fantastic, you really helped.
One more question: which character do you most recommend for the shadow campaign?

Inquisitor is the most "pure shadow" character, so he 100% makes the most sense for the Shadow main plot line, since you're working for the Inquisition on the Shadow path. His personal quest is a little silly though.

Shadow Warrior and High Elf have the best Shadow-path personal quests.
The Shadow Warrior's quest is actually longer and more detailed than the main quest, and it's about stopping a Necromancer conspiracy.
The High Elf's shadow quest is the most clever, she basically out-foxes a wealthy and powerful Elf dynasty through betrayal and intrigue.
