First, I am not here to complain or because I am having a question. I am here to warn possible new players of Sacred 1 of not destroying their campaign in the way that I’ve unfortunately done. First, you better answer these questions: 1. Do you love to roam freely around in a game with an open world, not caring about the campaign until there is nothing else you can do? 2. Do you have committed yourself to scout every last piece of the map that you can actually scout, just so that you make sure you haven’t missed anything?

Well, if you can answer one of these two questions with “Yes”, then you better watch out: In the desert, south of Urkenburgh, along the western cliffs, there is an entrance to a cave, which is infested with undead. The size alone, compared to the other caves and dungeons, already told myself that something was different there and yes, there it was: I have found the entrance to the western desert region, known as “Wyvern Pass”. I was very happy, as it is impossible in Act 1 of the main campaign to cross the bridge in the north of the pass, due to an invisible wall, which is yet broken, as soon as you enter the pass through the secret passage. Scouting all of the area and having to fight off waves of monsters with my trustful, yet blood lusty Vampiress, I have found an oasis with two horses, while numerous enemies attacked me. Killing them all, I then pressed the A-key to gather all the loot. Unfortunately, there was something lying around which you are NOT supposed to pick up, as long as the campaign does not ask you to actually do so. It’s just some water, yet as soon as I picked it up, my logbook said I am suddenly in Act 2. Yet, as nothing seemed broken, I’ve just went forward and explored the Wyvern Pass, as well as the Lava Region.

In the end, when there were no more quests anywhere available and I have scouted all of the map that was available to me, which is almost 30% of it, as far as I recall, and having pushed my Vampiress to level 53, while carrying almost 19 million gold pieces around and even killed all the six dragons I was able to find, I was finally able to proceed with Act 1 of the campaign, by talking to Wilbur in the Orc camp, south of Porto Vallum. Then I kept doing the first campaign missions, which was nothing more than running around the map, until I have been asked to go to Wyvern Pass.

And then it happened: When I have already picked up the water many days ago, the logbook said that a soldier asked me to find some water for him before he dies. Well, I have already carried this water for many days around with me and I have also found the soldier with ease. As I hovered my mouse over him, it also turned into the known symbol for speaking to a character. I then clicked and, you’ve maybe guessed it already, nothing happens. I’ve tried numerous times, yet nothing happened, which means just because I have picked up the water accidentally in a region which the game did not wanted me to see, before I was in the beginning of Act 2, my entire game, which I have spent 67.5 hours into, had been just doomed.

Therefore, if any new players should read this and they find the secret dungeon from the desert to the Wyvern Pass, please do NOT pick up the water at the small oasis, where two horses are ready for you to ride. Because if you do, you will never be able to proceed in the main campaign and you will never be able to enter the other regions, which are still not accessible early in the game. Unfortunately, I had to learn this lesson the hard way and again, I am not here to vent or anything like that. I am just here to warn any possible new players. If just one has read it and he/she will be careful of not doing the same mistake, as I unfortunately did, then my words were already good for something. It’s sad for me, because Sacred is a very nice game, even for the fact that the enemies stop attacking you, after you are much stronger than they are, yet, obviously, after putting an entire month into my game and my Vampiress, I need a break now from this game, as I am not yet willing to put so much time into it again, by leveling up, doing all the quests, scouting all of the land, go into every dungeon and pacify every single region that I can go to, before I get going with the campaign. Maybe some other time and then I shall hopefully make it better.

Ouch, I know how that feels :( I know you said you want a break but have you tried adding the water via a console command? Not sure if this will work but may be worth a try;

When at the spot where you picked up the water originally, open the game console by pressing the ~ button. Then, when the console is open, type wasser into the console window. This should spawn a bottle of water which will hopefully then open the quest again.

Good luck :)

Thank you very much for your response! :) I promise that I will try this out in a few hours and will edit my post, telling you if this trick worked or not! Maybe there actually is some hope left...

EDIT:

Pajama, you are absolutely the greatest! IT REALLY WORKED! Now I can keep playing again and luckily I haven't deleted my game yesterday in frustration! Thank you SOOOO MUCH! :)

Sad to hear about your problem, Sacred was always very buggy. What you can try is to start a new game with current character. To do so, you will have to export it first. Your level, items and gold will be kept, however quest and campaign progression will be lost.
How to export your character:
1. Load your game
2. Press ESC and choose export
3. Save character on any slot
4.Start a new game and choose Import on character creation menu, then select your character
5.Make sure to choose Silver difficulty level, otherwise your character will be too powerfull
Now you can ignore all side quests and focus on main story. Once you get to the point where you stopped, you can continue normally.
Hope it helps you somehow.Good luck!

Thank you very much for your reply, xJx! Luckily, the tip from Pajama has really worked! Typing "wasser" into the console where I have originally found the water and picking it up again triggers the soldier, so that he is now able to speak to me and I can proceed with my campaign!

As it was my first game and I didn't knew what I was going into, I have chosen Bronze difficulty and although at first the game was hard in a few areas, forcing me to keep staying in the southern core region first, it is indeed pretty easy now, especially when I am in my Vampire form, as I always put 1 point to Vampirism and 1 point to bloodlust, as soon as I receive a level up. Even as I needed some time to figure out how you are able to exchange the other combat arts of the classes at the combo master to your own good, because at first I just sold them always, the powers that I have are truly strong, especially claws of death (hard hit) and being able to get into my true Vampiress form for full two minutes now. Yet, I still enjoy it and luckily beside the bug that I had triggered, I have, until now, found nothing out of the ordinary. I hope this will keep on going like this. :) But again, thank you for your help as well!

Its long time i played sacred 1 but using the console doesnt trigger the cheat tag ?

I personally do not think so. I mean, I was stuck because the developers unfortunately created a dungeon that gives you the power of actually enter a region where you are not supposed to be during Act 1, so I guess they already have placed the water there, because they believed that the player would not pick it up before he actually is asked by the campaign of doing so, as they maybe forgot that they actually created a dungeon that makes it possible to visit the Wyvern Pass even before the start of Act 2. I wouldn't even be surprised, if the problem would also appear, if you are already in Act 2 and still pick up the water first before you spoke to the soldier. Plus, it was also the only time I actually needed the console. And as I have just finished the game yesterday evening, as following the campaign was all that there was left to do for me, it doesn't matter now. Yet, without using the console I could have never finished it at all, not because I am bad at the game but because of a mistake in game/level design.

Plus, my Vampiress didn't grew any bunny ears after using the console. The only things she always carried around were her powerful claws, drenched with the blood of her many enemies, just like her teeth. :-)

I ran into a similar bug with my battle mage the other day. I used Phase Shift to cross a river into the zone where you eventually get sent to find Valor and Shareefa, northwest of Mascarell, and where you can do the bonus content of fighting the ice elves and the double dragons.

I decided I wanted to turn back and not do the ice elves area, and it wasn't time to go to that part of the main quest. Lo and behold, the only gate out of that area was locked from the other side. I could no longer Phase Shift back across the river, either. I was trapped there forever.

Luckily, I had made a quicksave from just before I teleported to the wrong area. It's a good thing I didn't start in on that long ice elves quest, because I would surely have made several more saves while doing it, and wouldn't have had any saves from before I trapped myself there.

I almost learned the hard way that it is possible from many locations to get into areas that are supposed to be quest locked, too early, and if you do that, you're highly likely to break your game. So now I'm very careful to follow the main quest in order while exploring and doing all the side quests.
