Does anyone know of a way to boost the brightness in Rune Classic? The game is so dark for me that it's almost unplayable, even with the brightness turned up to maximum in video settings, and my monitor at max brightness.

In fact, the brightness slider in-game seems to do absolutely nothing! I can move it up and down with no noticeable effect on how the game is displayed. Is it just broken? It's so bad that I have to play the whole game with world lighting turned off in the video options. This means I can see what I'm doing just fine, but the game looks so ugly!

I've been playing through the game for a while with this problem, since I couldn't find any fixes online, but I thought I'd post here just in case.

I personally have no problems with brightness, but I don't play classic, only gold. Have you tried entering advanced options and disabling "UseGammaCorrection" under whatever renderer your using?. Classic is a port of the PS2 game, so I don't even know if you can change those options. You might try switching to a different color management preset with your monitor, flip through them while in-game.
Do you use f.lux on your machine?
If so, disable it, start Rune and see if it works then.

I haven't played Rune yet since I bought it here on GOG, but I had the same problem with Medal of Honor: Allied Assault a few months back and disabling f.lux before playing MoHAA did the trick.

what helped:
changed driver to OpenGL
and disabled changed one line in config file for [OpenGLDrv.OpenGLRenderDevice]

UseGammaExtension=0

After that, it was possible to change brightness in game
