I have read that in order to make a raised path you can hold the SHIFT key and move the mouse up or down. This does not work in my gog.com version of RCT2, but only if I am trying to build a path. I can use the shift key to raise or lower the height of other objects such as rides. Only paths cannot be raised or lowered. This is making it rather hard to build paths to rides which are not on the ground.

The control key, which is apparently supposed to snap paths to the level of adjacent objects, does not work either. The only way to get a path off the ground is to start at ground level and then slope it upwards.

Am I doing something wrong or is my game borked?

"To build an elevated path or tunnel, click the Free Path button. Your cursor will become an outline square with a yellow arrow in it. Move your cursor to a side of the outlined square to make the arrow point toward it. This is the direction that the first path piece will face when you click the mouse. Position the cursor on the square you want to build from, not on. For example, if you want to build a queue line attached to an elevated ride Entrance, position the outline square on the Entrance and move the cursor until the yellow arrow points away from the Entrance."

It doesn't make mention of being able to shift to use shift for elevated paths anywhere in the manual... then again, it never specifically mentions being able to use shift for placing elevated rides/coasters either, and that's possible. *shrug*

I still think it's actually a function that doesn't exist in the game.

I'm pretty sure that this is a function from RCT 3 and not two, but there is an interface much like building tracked rides that you can use. I suggest building from the entrance/exit of the ride out.

Alternately (expensively as well) raise a single square of terrain to the level you want and put the path up there, then you can lower the terrain when you're done.

This actually SHOULD work in RTC2 (not RTC1). It stopped working for me, too.
I've spent half of my childhood playing RCT2 and it was possible to control height of the construction. In this renewed version of the game it disappeared and I'm a little bit fed up with that. In setting shorcuts there is no function like that and I'm pretty sure, even 100%, that this function was in older versions.

GOG, any ideas how to solve that problem?
There is no "renewed" version. And don't blame GoG for everything, oftentimes it's the problem of a user's configuration.


Are you running the game as admin and in compatibility mode for WinXP SP3?
It's true, it does not work with footpaths, but with everything else, it does. I'm not sure it ever worked with them, though...
