I've made a little program for running RCT2 in windowed mode without having to mess around with virtual machines and thought you guys might like it.

https://github.com/ToadKing/ddhack/downloads (the latest version is "rct2-ddhack2.zip")

Just extract everything into your installation folder (Usually "C:\Program Files\GOGcom\RollerCoaster Tycoon 2 Triple Thrill Pack" or similar) and start the game. It has a couple quirks, but it works great on my end.

Should work on Windows 7 and probably Vista. Not sure about XP.

Did you copy the ddhack.ini file to the same directory as well? If so, try editing the yoffset value in it to get it to a value that works for you.

You also might need to either change your installation directory to allow all users to write/modify files in it OR run the game as administrator.
Anyway to make the screen size bigger?

You should be able to change the resolution in game with the latest version. It maxes out at 1280x1024 though.
A new version of the hack is released, check the first post for download link. This one should run much better on systems with modern-ish graphics.
Does this need GOG version of RCT 2 to work? I tried it for original CD version (without expansions, didn't bother installing them) and was wonderig if I did something wrong or if it simply just doesn't work. I'd love to play this game a little but without windowed mode find it kinda... bleh :/

I've only tested it with the GOG version. If I still had my CD version I would test it on that but I fear my copy is long gone. :(

Do you get any error messages when you try to run it?

EDIT: Try running this version and upload the ddhack.log file it creates. http://www.toadking.com/rct2-debug.zip

I can't seem to make anything happen so let's make clear I have at least the very basics right, meaning folders hack and logger should in my c:/games/rct2? Because that didn't have any effect. After adding the files in your latest post to game directory it started saying "The program can't start because VCOMP100.DLL is missing from your computer. Try reinstalling the program to fix this problem." Tried also put them in hack folder but that didn't have any effects. Needless to say, I didn't get or find any ddhack.log files. :(

I don't know if these help at all but I'm running 64bit English Windows 7 Pro and game is straight from the box without updates (it might have some though as it's from gold edition double game pack, came with Wacky Worlds).
That error message is from you missing the needed VS2010 redistributables. You can download those here: http://www.microsoft.com/download/en/details.aspx?id=5555
Thanks, this seems to be working fine for now, tested only a few second.

Works now. Thanks a ton! Game screen freezes when some other window is selected but game itself continues which is the only thing that matters. Waiting for money or that October of 5th year when you're finished with you park two years earlier and want to move on can be really boring so another screen for browsing web and stuff is a must. :)

Since you were able to do hack windowed mode, do you have any idea if one could use manual resolution? Not a big deal really but it would be fun if I could those few extra pixels left unused with 1280x960. :P 1280x1024 is a bit too much for my second screen as Windows doesn't let me hide top border out of screen and thus I can't see bottom 30 pixels or so (info below money completely hidden), if you understand what I mean.

Now if I only would find a crack which would work with Time Twister. Found one which worked with Wacky Worlds (that's start, think I have seen worse) but yeah... Maybe I'll buy GOG version if/once it's in sale at some point. Until then I have to bear with annoying CD which makes even more annoying voice when read. :/

I can only add support for resolutions RCT2 supports natively, and got the current list from my own PC. If you know the game can normally support that resolution, I can try adding in support for that resolution, but not a way to manually set it to any value.
Toad_King, you're the best.
Well done Toad_King. I can now enjoy this classic game in Windowed mode! Since my laptop runs at 1366 x 768, RCT2 now fits snugly on the desktop space, since my taskbar is on the left.

Too cool, much appreciated.
