Why is the offline installer files so insanely large? ><

Im someone who love to have my games for backup to play in case the internet vanish, but this game is a wooping ~80 GB!?
But the store page says ~50gb space needed.
Why then is this game so immensely big, even every patch is 4GB lol? O.o

I wont backup and save this game for this reason, its just way too much space for one game and I think it should be able to be done with 40-50GB tops ? :s

Hope this can be lowered a bit somehow in the future:)
galaxy tell me 37gb for the 1.0.2.1 full installer.

Downloads on the website is a total of 37gb (if I add up the parts).

Where are you seeing 80?

You don't need the patches if you download the updated installer.
What The Happy Friar said, you don't need the patches if you're downloading the latest installer.

But new games are only going to get greedier for disk space. For example the Baldur's Gate 3 installer is almost 140 GB and S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 is almost 150 GB! So it's worth thinking about having more space available for your backups.
I am a Linux user so cannot use Galaxy:)
I see this on my games install and dl page in my GOG lib on website, and there is no option to dl it all in a single batch.
Not sure if skipping patches will make the game work tho?
I am saving/backing up my games on remote drives.

I could give it a try via Heroic or Lutris next time I buy a new drive where Im sure there is enough space on, and see if it dl ~50 or the ~80 I see on my lib page here.
But I asume the offline installer might be different than regular installs, they dont always add up Ive noticed, so maybe they need more space sometimes?
80 is a LOT tho but would rather just get them all when I have space for it instead of risk it wont work b/c i didnt dl the patch files, for when the internet dies for good ;D

-edit
I just cheked via Heroic and it says ~37 GB to installl.
But this is not the offline versions to save and to install at any time later in the future like on their page, so why is this so much different O.o
I guess I can install it via HC and copy the entire game folder over instead and save those 40GB.
I do this also for the times im at the summerhouse with no internet, so as long as it can still run and play also in 5yrs, I will just do that instead then?

Its true many new games require, imo, way too much space that shuoldnt be needed. In those 2 games cases u mention b/c of all the spyware and 'anti cheat' they sneak in with the game install ;P
Really tho, 150gb is ridiculous, no reason it cant be done with less but all that useless ray tracing and taa etc bumps all this stuff up :s

It will. You do not need the patches, they are already baked into the latest installer. In your screenshot you want to download all the files called RoboCop: Rogue City (Part X of 11) and only those files. Those add up to 37 GB.
But, those patches must surely patch something right? So if I dl via ofline installer page and skip those :s
I dont understand why the other installers can do it for half the size still, doesnt make sense to me hmmmm.

I will just get it the other way then and just asume it works like u say, ty:)
