M3troid: Installed the game, then got ther error message

directx 12 is not supported on your system. try running without the -dx12 or -d3d12 command line argument

My windows and gpu drivers (amd) are updated, and use the command line didn't work.

Anyone ele with this problem and knows how to solve?
Depending on GPU hardware, there may be no solution.

I also get the error message "directx 12 is not supported on your system. try running without the -dx12 or -d3d12 command line argument" when I try to launch the game.

There was one other game I couldn't run in the past because the game code was written to be heavily dependent upon a specific hardware, usually the original RTX card hardware. I think this is the case with this game, but it hasn't been updated either. Some developers release updates to games that have modes which are more compatible, sometimes many years after initial release.

J Lo: Have you tried moving the install to a different hard drive? My copy only works on my M.2 for some reason.
I used an M.2 NVMe type drive but also tried a NAND SSD, no change. What kind of error/problem happens on an HDD? Usually newer games run on the spinning disk HDD drives, but with poor performance.

zzzz_tim: There's a very long Steam forum thread on this topic, it seems like this doesn't actually mean DX12 is unsupported, but that __certain advanced features__ of DX12 aren't supported, that the game requires.

Most common causes are
-- using a version of Windows 10 that isn't new enough (needs to be 21Hsomething or 22Hsomething)
-- GPU drivers
-- other random, inexplicable weird software causes that confuse the game, I guess?

Ten thousand curses upon "bleeding edge" game devs who insist on REQUIRING completely unnecessary latest tech for their big games, and then don't bother to give meaningful error messages when the user's PC doesn't support it.
When are we going to see the new Netscape Navigator GPU?

I just want to add something to the conversation, NOT a solution. I came here looking for a solution to the same error message.

I bought the game now with this sale as for 11 euros with all the packs felt awesome and you never know when one game you really really really want, won't be taken off one day.
I don't have a good PC, nor money to get a new one.

Considering if I was going to buy this game on sale, I checked the minimum system requirements and my eyes/mind got stuck on the CPU requirements. i7 4790, where I have a 4710HQ. Yes it's a 2014 mid tier laptop. I am poor, let's move on. So as I was thinking about the CPU for a few days, I got so focused on this that somehow I managed to completely skip over the GPU requirements. I don't know how that's even possible, but it happened. So eventually last night I decided to go for it. I knew the game was going to run poorly, but I am depressed and let's face it there isn't going to be a miracle where I suddenly have money. I have 11 euros, frak it...buy it.
Which I did. Installed on my SATA SSD (this laptop doesn't even have an M.2, and got the error message when I tried to run it. Yet again, while searching online for a solution, I didn't think that my GPU was not adequate for the game. It's a NVidia GTX 860M with 4GB of VRAM. Yes below the min requirements, but as I said I never made the connection.

Till a few minutes ago. At the moment I realized my mistake I could almost hear that tune from Curb Your Enthusiasm. Funny, more depressing, but still funny. I called myself an idiot and decided to type this here. Mostly to suggest to anyone else who might be having a similar issue, don't forget to double check your PC meets the minimum system requirements...Seriously.

I am not going to ask for a refund because it's entirely my fault and while it would be nice to have the money back, I don't deserve them.

Just be careful guys, even if you read the table with the requirements, make sure the info connects with the rest of the brain up there. :)
The solution is to spend my life saving$$$ and the kid's college fund on a new PC to play this one.
Anyone reading this, don't download NVIDIA driver version 576.02, it has too many bugs. They released a hotfix on their customer support site, but it didn't fix everything for me. It might cause your GPU to melt/burn up.

With 576.02 I am experiencing the bug where incorrect temperature values are reported and my cooling system is not running, and overheating is a pretty expensive problem. My radiator fans trigger at 39C but with my infrared thermometer gun I measured my card at 58C but my fans are off because the value for temperature gets stuck near room temperatures...
I have the same error, I have the latest driver but still get this DirectX12 error. I guess RTX 2070 is too old for this?
