Is anyone using this?

I bought the game last Friday, installed it and had a crash at some point. The game was still maximized (game stood still with a windows error popup on the desktop behind it). Alt+TAB didn't work either, when I started the task manager via ctrl+alt+del, I could "kill tree" the executable and get back to the desktop... There was no entry in event log, other than stopped working I think.

People on the internet were talking about this LAA flag and other tweaks to make the game more stable. After some research, I found this patch tool for 32bit binaries to enable them using up to 4GB of memory in Windows 64bit.

Following the instructions, there was no crash all weekend without reinstall.

Is anyone else using it and can confirm the result?

I'll not post a link straight away, just asking if this is something useful first.

Some more info:
On 64-bit Microsoft Windows, processes running 32-bit executables that were linked with the /LARGEADDRESSAWARE:YES option have access to 4 GiB of virtual address space

Me too, from http://www.worldofrisen.de/ with their mod-tool. :)

Actual you do not need to start the game with the ModStarter tool, just download and enable the mods you like from their database, then start the game from your normal shortcut on the desktop.

What exact patches/mods do I need besides the Unofficial patch listed earlier on this subforum? When I played it years ago it was unpatched and seemed to work fine.

It is not an unofficial patch, it merely links the binary to another system library to make use of more memory within your system.

If you go to the website mentioned earlier:
http://www.worldofrisen.de/download_folder11.htm
There is the ModStarter tool I use.

In there I enabled mostly cosmetic changes. It is really straight forward, I am usually careful not to enable too many mods, especially balancing stuff.

p.s. actual yesterday I got the error "purely virtual function call" and the client crashed. As I understand what one can find on the internet, this happens if either the object for the function call wasn't fully created yet or fully destructed before it tried to create it. Or in simple terms, the constructor of the main class tries to use functions defined in subclasses.

Hi Disi

I used the Modstarter to load up some hi-res textures as well, and got a few memory errors.
After I did the LAA thingy, I haven't had any problem since.
So, yes it seems like a good idea to use it if you get those memory errors. It's worked for me.

PS: I got Risen in the recent sale, so I'm pretty much a newbie to the game, but I've clocked 50+ hours so far, most of that since I did the LAA, so it seems very stable with it.
