Hey. I love ROTT but the slight lag in the sound drives me insane!

Does anyone know how to tweak this so that the sounds and in-game actions sync up properly?

I presume there's some arcane DOSBox thing going on but I don't have a clue what I'm looking for...

Also, just as FYI, I've tried WinROTT (GL) but it's not stable and the orginal 320x200 resolution (my preference) won't work for me. :)

So, after a lot of faffing about and reading I've found a solution and thought I'd share it in case anyone else has this issue in the future.

Navigate to your ROTT installation and look for a file called:

dosboxRiseOTT.conf

Open it in a text editor and look for the section marked "mixer" and find these settings:

nosound=false
rate=22050
blocksize=2048
prebuffer=80

I changed the blocksize (the 'size' of the sound) and prebuffer (the amount of sound stored) to this:

nosound=false
rate=22050
blocksize=512
prebuffer=20

It seems that storing big blocks of sound can improve sound quality but causes lag. I also found making the buffer smaller helped with the lag too...

I'm no expert and just kind of fumbled around but the settings seem to work okay though your mileage may vary.

Anyway, hope this helps someone else one day. :)
