You might have a very old install or something, I am not sure. Best thing to do in this case, if you have the time, is to just download the offline installer and start anew :)

how do I do that? I already have the installer from 2013 (or was it January 2014?)
I guess that there are 2 ways to uninstall a game like ROTT:

1) Use the start menu shortcut for the game uninstaller:
Start -> All Programs -> GOG -> Rise of the Triad -> Uninstall

2) Use the Control Panel:
Open Control Panel -> Uninstall a Program -> Rise of the Triad -> Uninstall

It doesn't tell me which ROTT is which. it just has two files in the uninstaller called "Rise of the Triad" with no mention of whether it is 2013, Dark War, the patches or anything else related to them. the file dates tell me nothing either,

It's fine now. I just deleted the game completely from my drive and deleted the older installers too before downloading the new one and the patch and then installing those.
