Did anybody managed to put his\her hands on Mystery Box in the middle of the lake? I tried almost every obiect and Alice always refused to go ther and grab it.
How did the game end for you? In my playthrough Alice knocked Richard out and locked him in churth's basement. I didn't learn what happened in the prison. Has anybody reached any other ending?
I got the box by using the ladder so I had a slightly different ending.

Thanks! Now I opened the box and got an ending I don't understand... Like... The gun backfired or what?
I assumed she shot him and ran. At least in my ending Richard ended up dead.
So, not getting the mystery box is the slightly less depressing ending then? I didn't get the box in my playthrough, and figured it was just there for players to speculate. Fudge. Is there any way to save Barney at all? :(((

It's certainly less depressing without that box.
I don't think saving Barney works plot-wise: why would Alice be in the prison if she saved him? On the other hand - maybe the radio transmission? It says something about food and medicines...
Interesting.

I finished with and without the box. I didn't like the way either having or not having the bullet then arbitrarily chose my character's final reaction. I would have like to make that choice myself.

I was wondering if there was a happy ending. Based on the transmission. But, yeah, given she's in jail, I don't see how Barney could be saved. (Not really my cup of tea, that Barney bit. I would have preferred some other resolution.)

Edit: Hang on a second? Alice knocked Richard out and locked him in the church basement? How did that come about? After they escaped from prison?

I've had - (explicit spoilers) - got the bullet and she shot him after escape. Didn't get the bullet and they went to live together with the Polars.

I must've screw something up.
- No bullet - Alice threatens Richard with empty gun, knocks him out and escapes alone,
- Bullet - Richard somehow kills Alice (screen fades and when it comes back Richard stands next to her dead body in a pool of blood).
That's odd.

Maybe there is something else at play. It went over my head, if so.

Like, why would your no bullet Alice knock him out and mine go with him? We must have done something else differently?

Something else I don't understand is how Alice looked at the photo and knew the number for the keypad. What was that about?
Regarding the number for the keypad, Alice scribbled it on Richard's family photo in the church to humour Barney.

So how many endings are there exactly? Here's mine:

- did not pick up mystery box
- Alice had buried the gun in Barney's grave; in the final scene, she picks it up and confronts Richard
- eventually knocks Richard out, and puts him in the tool shed next to the apartment building, along with a note

Could it have something to do with the scraps of clues you pick up along the way? Perhaps the ending changes depending on whether or not you find all of them?

I also got the polar bears ending. I remember the following choices which might have affected the outcome:

- Richard confessed to Alice that he had killed before.
- Richard pressed on about Alice's dream of becoming a children's book illustrator.
- Alice asked Barney about how he knows about Sara instead of saying whether or not the bad men might come back.
- Alice told Barney that Marc died.
- Alice told Barney that the polar bears are bad men, scaring him.
- I did not pick up the mystery box.

I believe that the first two items might influence the endings greatly. What choices did those of you who got a different ending make?

Open questions not answered by this ending:
- Who killed the guard in the prison? (The "hacked" emails refer to a bashed-in head, so it must have happened some time ago.)
- Who is the meteorologist in the Church?
- How did Alice end up in prison? (Where there is no accuser, there is no judge. -> The meteorologist?)
In my game, Richard also confessed having killed before, but I didn't press Alice on about her ambition. Maybe that could be it?

Aha. That makes sense. Also, that means Alice knew who Richard was all along, as he hinted at - because she'd seen the photo in jail.

I think I picked up a lot of clues, but no one clue stood out as making Richard either conclusively good or bad, at least not to warrant the difference I had, between shooting him and going away with him.

No idea. (But interested to find out.)
Yup. It wasn't explicitly mentioned in the dialogues, but I assumed, from the way the final scene took off, that they had already discussed it along the way from the prison to the frozen lake/football field.
Seems like you've found four of the endings so far, folks. Good work! Will be interested to see if anyone can work out the ending conditions... Glad this is a challenge - the last thing we wanted was for people to feel they made some obvious choices about the way the story played out. :-)
