I first tried the puzzle box normally (without viewing the mechanism), and in under ten seconds I managed to solve the first side. Obviously I got incredibly lucky, as I tried the other sides for several minutes and got nowhere.

Then I noticed he said something about not being able to see the mechanism, so I figured that one out immediately. So now I can see the mechanism but I still can't figure it out. What's more, I reloaded the save from before my first try, and even viewing the mechanism I can't figure it out. If I hadn't accidentally solved the first side before I would think I needed something else to help me solve it, but that's obviously not the case.

Am I supposed to move the small one on to the outline? It doesn't even seem possible. Is it possible to move the outline? I have no idea what the hell was going on inside when I solved the first side the first time.

edit: never mind, I figured out how it works.

You need to move the small bracket to what I assume is the carved slot for it (a node of the grid marked by a small bright bracket). It's certainly possible. You can move each bracket when the slider is inside it.

By the way, I'm calling it now: within at most 3 months, someone will request hints for the box puzzle, and someone else will complain how difficult it is and give the hints for independently figuring out the blind solution.

I doubt it would even take 3 months for someone to ruin the puzzles outright. Two days ago, there was already a full walkthrough for the game.

No, I mean there'll be someone who went all hardcore on that puzzle, having missed the helpful device and decided not to look at a walkthrough or ask for help, offering hints for their insane solution. As in:

adventurefan117: Hi guys! im stuck! How do i unlock turtle's box??

Rosa_Blackwell: It's not too hard. Take a piece of paper and start building a tree graph (obligatory wikipedia link), performing a breadth-first search (obligatory Oxford University link) on it as you go. You should find the solution in 9^(4^e!) seconds, on average. I won't provide the combination because it's more fun to figure it out on your own! Good luck!

Ahh. That would be entertaining, especially considering how working on the puzzle blind, you'd have no idea what's really going on inside the box.

I did the first three sides blind (using random combinations) before I learning about the easy way. Does this count? ;-)

No, it only counts if someone suggests a consistently successful alternative solution to the box puzzle (other than using the device, lolrandomly messing with the box, or going for the blackmail option) in good faith, being unaware of the easy way.
