I'm guessing this isn't intentional so I figured I'd report it so it can be fixed in later versions of the game...

The attached error message appeared, accompanied by a full crash to desktop, after I broke the lock of the professor's diary open in the hospital. I hadn't saved before that so I had to start again from the last autosave, in the lab. The second time through, the crash didn't happen and I could continue to play; the only difference was that the second time, I played around with the computer in the professor's lab before typing Pi into the keyboard to get the man out of his machine. I don't think there was any other difference; both the first and the second time I unsuccessfully tried to enter a couple of three-digit numbers (001, 011 and 114, among others).

System: Windows XP SP2. I used the game version as downloadable on GOG.com on the 19th.

You probably switched to another character on the close-up screen.

Looks like it. Bug is reproducible: when I switch to Ed, the scene continues the way it is supposed to up until the vial breaks and the diary is destroyed. When the game leaves the close-up, it crashes.
