xpancakes11x.189: I can right click and tell it to add a button for the keyboard side but the controller side is blank just dashes for everything and right clicking doesn't bring up the same dropdown list.
Edit: Just decided to use Steam Input and its working great now.
RevStinger: How can i use steam input? i can't configure the control for the game
If you already know how to add the game to your steam library you should be able to skip to the bottom and just focus on the steam overlay/steam input stuff but just in case...
1. At the bottom left hand side of steam click "Add a game" and then choose "Add non steam game"
2. Click "Browse" and go to where gog has downloaded the game..
3. Right click Launch Resident Evil 3 and click properties (Just leave that open for now. We'll come back to it in step 5/6 if you end up needing it.
4. Choose "Launch Resident Evil 3" to be added to steam. (If you choose the file "ResidentEvil3" then you won't have the splash screen that lets you choose the mercenaries mode)
Sometimes thats all you need to do. Just right click the game in your steam library go to the properties through steam and change the name to whatever you want and you can start the game. But sometimes you get an error. If you get an error when starting the game up:
If you get an error when starting from the "RE3launcher" through steam:
5. Right click the game in your steam library and go to "properties"
You should have the programs properties page up from before so at this point you should have both the games properties page and steams properties page up at the same time. You'll see that they both have a "Target" and a "Start in" section.
6. Copy the "Target" from the non steam properties page and paste it to the "Target" of the Steam properties page. (Make sure to delete the target that was there before) Note that this will make the icon at the top flash or disappear.
7. Copy the "Start in" from the non steam properties and paste it in the Steam properties "start in" (delete the start in info that was already there)
Thats how you add the game to steam.
Now once in game go to the steam overlay (the default is Shift+tab) At the bottom is a controller icon. Brings you to Steam input. (You can also get to it outside of game by right clicking the game in your steam library > Manage > controller layout.
My controller layout is as follows(I use a Playstation controller so if your using a different kind you may need to convert to your button style):
the d pad is my arrow keys to move around
X is space
O is C
Square is V
Triangle is Z
R2 is S
L2 is Space
I have my share button/select button as m for map
and start as escape for easy quitting.
You should be all set now. ^_^
