smedlyduke: I agree. This is the worst game engine ever. The setup is complete backwoods bullshit.
The build engine was very technologically advanced for its time, with support for voxels and a rudimentary room-over-room 3d. You can even boost the resolution beyond 640x480 if you really can't stand games the way they used to look. I agree that there are sound balancing issues in redneck rampage, and I'm not a huge fan of how the music kicks in, but all things considered, it's a very solid game.
As for the setup, that's what you got before directX packaged everything into a single set of interpreters. Pretty much every DOS game had something similar.
